Gilmour starts as Lampard makes 8 changes | Expected Chelsea line-up vs Man Utd

Chelsea will look to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup when they take on Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night. Here is the team we expect Frank Lampard to select for the game:

Goalkeeper: Lampard will rotate his side so Kepa Arrizabalaga is expected to be given a rest with Willy Caballero given a rare start between the sticks.

Defence: Chelsea will continue to be without the services of Andreas Christensen as he remains on the sidelines through injury. Antonio Rudiger is back in full training after recovering from a groin injury but is still lacking fitness so he won’t be involved against Man Utd.

Fikayo Tomori has been excellent for Chelsea since breaking into the team this season but he might be given a rest tomorrow with Marc Guehi coming in alongside Kurt Zouma in the middle of the back four.

Reece James is pushing for a recall so Cesar Azpilicueta should be given the night off while Emerson Palmeiri is expected to come in at left-back for Chelsea with Marcos Alonso making way.

Midfield: N’Golo Kante has once again been ruled out for the hosts as he’s still recovering from a groin injury and Ross Barkley is also expected to miss out with an ankle problem that’s kept him out of the last two games.

With Ruben Loftus-Cheek still working his way back from a serious Achilles injury Lampard doesn’t have too many options in midfield so Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic are expected to keep their places.

However, Mason Mount has played a lot of football this season so he may get a rest with youngster Billy Gilmour getting another chance to impress against Manchester United tomorrow evening.

Attack: Chelsea are likely to make changes in attack so Michy Batshuayi could come in up front with Tammy Abraham given a breather. Olivier Giroud may have to settle for a place on the bench once again.

Christian Pulisic bagged a superb hat-trick during Chelsea’s win at Burnley on Sunday so he’s likely to be rested with Callum Hudson-Odoi given a recall after being named on the bench at the weekend.

Willian may also be given the night off against Man Utd so Pedro could be recalled to make his first appearance in almost a month after struggling for form and fitness this season.
