Chelsea served a huge blow to Manchester United’s title hopes by beating the league leaders 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. The home side controversially had a goal disallowed after just 2 minutes, Luiz adjudged to have fouled in the box just before Torres scuffed home a shot from the edge of the area. However, replays showed there was very little in the decision.
Manchester United then took the lead and it was Wayne Rooney who scored it, firing home from 25 yards into the bottom corner. Chelsea equalised just after half-time through the unlikely source of defender Luiz, who hit a sweet volley past Van Der Sar for 1-1. Chelsea then got the winner with little over 10 minutes remaining when Smalling tripped Zhirkov in the area, Lampard making no mistake from the spot.
