Winning The League Now Will Show We Are Mature

No quadruple this season then. I confess that I was severely disappointed when I saw Martins pass the ball in the open net after the Koscielny-Szczesny mix up. Even though this was only the Carling Cup, it was a trophy, and it was something we haven’t held in our arms since the FA Cup triumph over United.

And again, it was Birmingham to inflict a huge mental blow in a stellar season. Who can forget the Eduardo incident, upto which we were the favourites for the league? Before Sunday, we were 2nd in the table, and in with a shout to win the title.

But to lose the Carling Cup, and in such a manner, will affect the Gunners. And this time it is not only a mental blow. We were robbed of a trophy. Before this week, a quadruple actually seemed plausible, with Carling Cup seeming to already be in the bag. Now the remaining 3 are not quite that easy to take home.

A lot of pundits and critics, who ruled us out as title contenders at the beginning of the season, agree that we have become mature. And that is reflected by our composure this season. We lost to Newcastle, WBA and Tottenham at home, but always bounced back to win and keep the pressure on United. We lost at the Bridge but played with confidence at home to beat them black and blue. We threw away a 4 goal lead at Newcastle, but were able to grind out 1-0 win over Stoke, without Koscielny and RvP.

But the real test of our maturity comes now. Without RvP and Walcott for at least the next 2 weeks, as well as Fabregas being out, the onus is on us to prove that the boys have become men. It is time to show that we have put the miserable Sunday night behind us and are looking ahead.

With Chelsea beating Manchester United, the atmosphere around the ground would be lighter and more optimistic. And with Aaron Ramsey returning, the players will become more enthused and inspired, to do it for the fans, Arsene, and most importantly, for themselves.

If we can capitalize now, and win the Barclays Premier League, we will end the oft-reminded trophy drought with great style.
