The Premier League Table Since Football’s Restarted

After an incredible six weeks of live-action after returning, England’s top-flight league ended this weekend with Liverpool as the title winners. The Reds enjoyed a comfortable finish by securing the Premier League title early enough. However, it was Manchester United and Manchester City who’ve managed to maintain a solid form since the games restarted. Here’s an in-depth look at the top four teams since the EPL restarted.

1. Manchester City

After nine games in six weeks, Manchester City finished the season with a triumphant 5-0 win against Norwich. City resumed its 2019/2020 campaign with a postponed game against Arsenal on 17th June, managing to secure a 3-0 win. Since the return, City maintained a great form throughout their games, despite losing to Chelsea 2-1 on their second match after the restart.

2. Manchester United

After 38 games, Manchester United ended their 2019/2020 campaign in third position behind Manchester City and Liverpool. The Red Devils managed to outrank Chelsea based on the goal difference, after both clubs finished on 66 points. Nonetheless, Manchester United has always maintained an excellent form since the EPL restarted late June.

In their last game, United managed to secure a 2-0 away win at Leicester to qualify for the Champions League next season. However, boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says that his men still have a long way to go. Manchester United ended the campaign strongly so they’ll be hoping to take that form into next season.

3. Southampton

Following October’s 9-0 loss to Leicester, Southampton were understandably tipped for relegation this season. However, the Saints have enjoyed the benefits of standing by their Australian manager, who managed to improve the team’s performance to end the season at the 11th position with 52 points.

Since the leagues return, the Saints have lost only a single game, ending their campaign with a 3-1 win against Sheffield United on Sunday. The team has had an unbelievable form over the last month, recording 18 points over their last nine games in the league. Even better, the Saints have their hopes high for a better performance during their 2020/2021 EPL campaign.

4. Tottenham

Similar to Southampton, Tottenham has been on great form since the league restarted late last month, recording a total of 18 points since restarting their campaign. Following their brilliant performance since the league’s resumption, they managed to end their campaign in the sixth position to book a spot in the Europa League group stages.

During their final match, Tottenham drew 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park to finish-off what was a frustrating campaign but ultimately they’ll be playing in Europe next season so can go into next year with confidence.
