First Steps Taken, But Greater Tests Lay Ahead For Arsenal

Arsenal news

A ’5′ star performance from an Arsenal side ripped through Leyton Orient to signal its intentions to its competitors. Goals from Chamakh, Clichy and Nikko saw the home side to a 5 nil lead with 15 mins to go. Orient are not a top team, and we all know this. But we won and that is what counts…

I am going to be frank, we expected a performance and we got one. Orient are not a team which, with all due respect, could test us but we did require a win. And we got one. This, plus the fact that United losing points, will not make up for the Carling Cup defeat but should certainly give us some confidence heading into the Sunderland game. That game shall be the real litmus test. How we respond at the top level is what counts. And we shall see that on Saturday.

One issue which I am happy about is the fact that our back-up strikers got goals. Nikko got a hat-trick. His header on the half an hour mark, his shot in the 43rd, and his penalty in 61st. Chamakh swept home his shot after some good play from Rosicky in the 7th minute. And of course, Clichy sending Eboue’s cross home after a smart dummy from Chamakh.

One more thing which I would want to make clear is that although this is a sign of encouragement it should not be taken too much as we knew Arsenal were going to beat Orient. Its only after the Manchester United game shall we be able to judge how much this Arsenal side has progressed after Wembley. Next up, Sunderland at the Emirates.

Guns-out,
