[VIDEO] Johan Djourou Injury: Defender Suffers Dislocated Shoulder

By on March 12, 2011

Arsenal defender Johan Djourou was stretchered off the field with 10 minutes to go during Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester United with a dislocated shoulder. The Swiss centre half has been an important figure at the heart of the Gunners defence with Vermaelen out injured for the majority of the season but his season is now over.

As United broke down the right, Rooney cut the ball back for Hernandez and Djourou put in an attempted block, but the back-tracking Sagna collided with Djourou’s shoulder as he lay on the floor and the defender immediately signalled for attention. He lay motionless on the ground for several minutes before he left the pitch on a stretcher and a neck brace. Djourou has only returned this season after being out for 16 months with a serious knee injury and has been in impressive form. Here is a video of the incident:

***UPDATE*** Arsene Wenger has confirmed to the media that Djourou’s season is over after dislocating his shoulder***

No chance of winning the league now Djourou is out for the season! This is getting crazy now, how many seasons are injuries going to kill our season??

Yes, many of the players are not good enough but at the end of the day all the other top clubs have gone backwards and this was a great chance for the league, but sadly with kos and Squilaci at the back we have no chance!

I wonder whether Wenger the Loser is ruing his decision not to reinforce the defence during the transfer window.
