Three Players I Want To See In The First Team Next Year

By on March 18, 2011

As we approach the last 10 games of the season, talks have begun to surface on the new arrivals that are needed for next season. Even though the season has not ended, we already can assume that there are some who will not be around for next season. I will touch of the few whom I seriously do not want to see in an Arsenal jersey after May but for now, let’s see who we can expect to be in the first team next season.

Besides Jack Wilshere and to a certain extent Kieran Gibbs, we have not had many players coming out for the academy and having a prolonged run in the first team. Of course we might see Miquel get his chance in the later part of this season but there are three others currently out on loan or injured which I feel must be included into the first team consideration for next year. These three players are:

Jay Emmanuel Thomas

Henri Lansbury

Emmanuel Frimpong

All three players have been on the fringes of the first team and out on loan for the past two seasons. Looking at the depth of the team and the players we have currently like Diaby, Denilson and Bendtner, I am sure the three players above have more desire and talent to play and make it big with the Arsenal first team.

Totally agree about Henri, he will bring a great deal to the team, he reminds me of Ray Parlour!

I agree with these 3 also. We do need a clear out though of about 6 players, namely Squillacci, Denilson, Diaby, rosicky, arshavin and Bendtner which could bring us in in excess of 30m. Some of these players are good and I don’t subscribe to the “they are useless” opinion but I feel a club of our stature should upgrade to top players and players who bring us more balance. We are lacking 1 top CD, one top midfield general (we have no natural cover for Song), and one world class striker (with pace) who could either play with RVP or at least give us a greater threat up front than we currently have if RVP is injured. Also RVP does lack that burst of pace to go past a player and even with him playing there are some games we don’t look threatening in the last third. I think we would need another 30-40m added to the 30m raised from sales to secure 3 top players. I think the time for bargain shopping is done as we have enough raw quality but unfinished players to introduce to the team already. If we spent 70-80m this year at a net outlay of 30-40m so what. With the age of our team it would likely mean these introductions would be the only spending required for the next 3 seasons. I would like Gary Cahill (15-20m), Scott Parker (15-20m) and Alexandre Pato (30-40m). The striker one is difficult but I love the look of this guy. He has the same style of balance and control as Henry did and that same style of moving at 3/4 pace then suddenly turning on the afterburners. A goal ratio of every other game for Milan is not bad in the italian league. I actually believe he is possibly the worlds best striker in the making. I think at an attacking club he is ready to explode and believe 30-40m would end up looking a bargain for this 21 year old.

totally agree on scotty parker.. we really need that english blood in the team.. 15m will do it.. cahill or hangeland.. hangeland will be a cheaper option imo but i really dont think pato would joinus.. wenger didn sign him whn he was available for 15m he surely wont for 40+

You only have to look how well Jack has done this year. Agree with all of them and the Japanese lad Ryo Miyaichi. Lansbury you can see his desire even when he plays for Norwich, and Frimpong would already be established in the first team if he hadn’t been hit by injury. JET just looks the part. And Kyle Bartley……

30-40m for Pato, sorry mate not going to happen

He’s adjudged to be worth around £50m and anyhow we don’t spend more than £20m

The cheaper version of Pato would be Neymar but he’s also way out of our price range

Remember we have never spent more than £17m, so don’t get your hopes up–we won’t be breaking the bank and that’s what Wenger’s for–challenge for honours while earning nice juicy profits

I do think that next season Arsenal’s Denilson, Diaby, Rosicky and Bendtner must be moved on. They all have something to offer but they just don’t seem fit to offer it at Arsenal or in England for that matter. Many people think we should buy to replace them but I think the youngsters out on loan are more than adequate. Furthermore, they have the desire and will to succeed here as they’ve all been here from childhood. It’s a matter of principle.

    good day Gooners,

I fully agree with the trio but I’ll like to see Clichy on his way out of Arsenal as we haven’t seen what he can do on the field. we’ve seen the potential for the past 7 yrs and Wenger still thinks this guy has the potential to play for us. this is Arsenal not a place of developing players with potential till they are at the age where we don’t want to see them anymo like the bunch of players Arsene brought to us in the past 6 yrs.

It’s nice and warm in Cape Town

Hope we win tomorrow to add pressure on Manu

    Good luck boys

I’m sick of people calling for Arshavin out. Are you mad? In the premierleague alone he has assissted 11 goals (2nd only to Nani) and scored 5. These are often winning goals or 1st goals aswell. Without him there is no way we would be in the position we’re in. These are his stats when he is in poor form aswell. If he regains his composure next season he could do even better than this! I would like to see Ramsey cement a first team place this year though. I don’t think any of the others are quite ready yet and frimpong will need to go out on loan to regain match fitness. If Ryo continues his form at Feyenoord he could make it into the 1st team, alternate him with Arshavin to give Arshavin a bit more rest next season (he has played more games this season than any other Arsenal player).

I agree gooner it will not happen but we can dream. Bendtner and Arshavin could get you close to £30m alone. Throw in £3-4m each for 4-5 other players and even with £50m for Pato plus £30-35m for Parker and Cahill then the net outlay is not so bad. Throw in the age of our squad and that IMOO these 3 would complete our squad, and take us to another level, and that this net outlay would likely represent 3 years spending it all seems very do-able. However I do agree with you that AW will not look at it like this and would balk at that price for one player. I just wish he would look at it from the total net outlay and that this years spending would cover the next 2 also.

Sure I agree with the above suggestion, personally I would like to see Gary Cahil on the defensive part, Ryo Miyaichi, Henri Lansbury and Jay Emmanuel Thom, he this kids has what it takes to be included in the first team, its time we say goodbye to some players like Diaby, tom rosicky, almunia, squillaci and bendtner, though they are good players in a certain level but I don’t think they fit in gooners expectations, we must have a strong defensive team as well as having two more RVP kind of players who can score goals, Arshavin is a good player but he needs to focus more in scoring goals. On the midfield we have wonderful midfielders indeed Fab, Jack Wilshire, Song, Nasr are fantastic players we hv to be proud of, not forgetting Walcot and Ramsey.

@kharadonha – You are saying you want all the players Arsene has signed in the last 6 years out? like Van Persie? Fabregas? Nasri? Walcott? Vermaelen? Koscielny? Sagna? Arshavin? Ramsey?
I think the Cape Town heat has gone to your head!

have you seen RYO MIYAICHI ??? he is what need!
He is the same class as MESSI and C.RONALDO !! watch him on youtube!

cant see bendtner, shavin, and diaby going anywhere. and i wouldnt want them to. you must be crazy to even suggest it. yes diabys’ brain works slightly slower but theres room for improvement. aint like hes 28! as with bentz.

pong i feel should and would have taken dennis’ place if it werent for that dam injury. suppose everything happens for a reason. at least its comfirmed that dennis aint quite good enuf.

as for jet and the rest? wel we’l c. thers a few that could push for the first team and then again we could buy. there not in the first team yet for a reason.

Agree with selling the five of them. Bentner denilson diaby rocisky squilachi. Players like neymar melo snidjer, we also need wingers and central defenders in mould of kompany.

Totally agree with the guy who defended Arshavin, he is not a weak link, just a quality player who has suffered dips in form. As for Ryo being in the same class as Messi and Ronaldo, I’m sorry mate but watching a few grainy clips of Dutch football or Japanese schoolboy matches on YouTube is not the same as scoring 40+ goals in the top leagues in the world. He looks an interesting prospect, but don’t get carried away.

i don’t think arshavin diaby and denilson should go . they are good. what we need is two good central defenders. .

How about signing Ranger from Newcastle. He is a fighting forward-a one man army in the front.

I think, Henri Lansbury is the next player who we can expect a lot from. Being educated at Arsenal since age of 8, he knows what does Arsenal mean, and will fight for the club if he gets the chance. He has a good chance as Wenger admitted eaerlier this season that for me, Henri is a first-team player. And he plays very well for Norwich, as far as I know, he is nomiated for an award (Young Players in the Championship, I guess), let’s wait, I hope he’s going to win it.
Frimpong’s role is inevitable, Wenger counts with him, and we need a cover for Song. Denilson and Diaby are useless for the holder position.
JET is another issue. He has been on a mixed duty at Cardiff. Sometimes he plays amazingly well, but sometimes his attitude is awfully poor. At Arsenal, simply he cannot afford it, our style is so error-prone. With a good attitude-JET, we’d fly, but I fear, with his lazy and poor attitude, he would only be a member on this pitch.
Aaron Ramsey who I want to see in the first team next year. He’s progessing very well after his injury, it was nice to see him against Man United last weekend. I hope, there won’t be set-backs.
Oh, and I forgot Vermaelen, as well.
Of course, market is an option, but knowing Wenger, it’s a forgetable solution, but somehow I feel, it would be useless, now we do have some quality young players to replace the elder and frustrated well-known guys: the injury-prone Diaby, Denilson, the ego-boy Bendtner, and Rosicky – maybe Arshavin, too.
The next big thing will be Ryo Miyaichi, but I fear, we must wait for him a bit longer.

There is zero chance that Wenger will sell Squillaci. He signed either a 2 or 3 year contract, so the player won’t want to leave and Wenger will be happy to keep him as a backup.

I think the first player through the door is Bendtner and then Rosicky, I think both will end up in the Bundesliga.

Arshavin will be here for at least another season, but Diaby and Denilson I’m sorry to say are going nowhere especially is Cesc moves on.

Also don’t forget wenger has already signed a new CB for next season, some fella called Vermaelen 😉

That means we have 6 CB’s with Bartley.

    March 18, 2011 at 7:24 pm

What about Ramsey, I think next season is his break through season. He was very close before the injury. also Coquelin is meant to be doing really well in france, i agree that we need a pacey striker, what about Benzema, Madrid usually end up selling their players cheaper, i think £23 mil might get him, I think we missed a real bargain with Ben arfa, I think we really need pace on the wings especially when walcotts out injured, even oxlade chamberlain might be good but abit too young. Ajax’s Eriksen would be nice addition aswell as Marco marin and Ricky van Wolfswincle (check his goals stats).
I agree with the previous post that we should sell Clichy and give Gibbs a try he will only get better.
Bentner, Denilson, Rosicky, Eboue and Diaby need to go

    March 18, 2011 at 8:05 pm

yeah from what i’ve seen from Coquelin he has improved a bit. with frimpong ramsey and wilshere all fit and the arrival of lansbury it seems inevitable that denilson will leave or get left out so much he’ll leave in jan. miyaichi needs international caps. who knows where wellington will be. got a feeling its not jets time yet, expect another loan spell. we will keep b.52 unless he requests a transfer, vela will be back so no space for strikers. if vermaelin is back and we get bartley back dont expect to see a defencive signing. we will only replace if players leave, no one leaves= no signings

Out – Rosicky, Bendtner, Denilson, Squillaci, Almunia

    In – Vertonghen, Honda,

Frimpong, Ramsay, Vela to play more first team

Yep. Cant see how our loanees would do any worse than our current players. For me Lasbury, JET and Ramsy are definitely ready

  23. Am

    March 19, 2011 at 12:39 am

    I would say:

    Lansbury in for Denilson
    JET in for Bendtner
    Bartley in for Squillaci
    Myiachi in for Rosicky

    • Gunner for life

      March 21, 2011 at 10:23 am

Great shout. JET is going to be a legend in my opinion, versatile and determined. Him or Silva should replace Bendtner (unless Wenger pulls his finger out and goes for Benzema)

I feel Frimpong should come in for Denilson (only missed out because of his injury at the start of the season)

Bartley or Miguel will or SHOULD replace squillaci

Myiachi (depending on his work permit) should replace Rosicky (sorry to say, as he used to be my favourite player in the Arsenal line up)

I don’t think we need to get rid of 6 players. We need to get ride of Almunia, Bendtner, and Denilson. Then we need to go buy Gary Cahill from Bolton, a hard nose young English defender and a world class forward to partner up Van Persie. Can you imagine Thomas Vermalen and Gary Cahill in the middle of our defense. If Clichy wants to leave, let him go for good money. Gibbs can take over. We have enough mid-fielders that even getting rid of Denilson, we don’t need to buy another one. Almunia, Bendtner and Denilson are just not good enough to play for us. What the hell was Almunia doing today on the second goal? I wanted to go through the TV and kill him. He is an idiot. And, my grandmother has better touch than Bendtner. As with Denilson, there is no way he is Brazilian. We must have gotten the only Brazilian who does not know how to attach and go forward, and he sure as hell does not know how to shoot. He took a shot and he was a 100 yards off the target. That is not Brazilian.

Get a commanding goalkeeper in first of all… chezzer isnt experienced enough ATM.. plus there should be some competition(fabianski is not) if clichy wants to go(that would be a sad day) let him.. proceeds to go to baines.. quality left back.. english.. spend on hangeland(monstrosity along side verminator) or cahill.. and scotty parker.. chamakh is good enuff off the bench.. nasri arsh walcott can all play behind rvp.. so three players that we have needed since paddy v left remain the same… goalkeeper, center back, midfielder all commanding

    Players to go:
    1) Almunia- After the WBA game, what is left to say?
    2) Denilson – I hate this guy the most and how the heck was he Brazil U20 Captain? Is he even Brazillian?
    3) Diaby – Wenger has already stated he is not the same Diaby he was before his horrific injuries.
    4) Fabregas – His mind is set on Barcelona already. With his suicidal backpass to Iniesta, one can only question his commitment to the Gunners.
    5) Arshavin – This guy is turning 30 and 30 is the age that Wenger hates most. No player above 30 is normally Wenger’s policy. He still has some resale value and his pace, agility, decision making will weaken with age. Selling him now will give Arsenal some transfer funds than selling him later.

  28. blackevian

    March 22, 2011 at 2:05 pm

Reserve players that can be promoted:
    1) Henri Lansbury – This guy is the real deal. His displays for Norwich while on loan has simply been magnificent and I believe he will be competing with Ramsey for a slot in midfield.
    2) Jay Emmanuel Thomas – A future England prospect. He has already played in England U-21 level and would be a good addition to the Arsenal 1st team.
    3) Pedro Botelho- If Clichy leaves, we need more competition in the left back position and we have Gibbs, Armand Traore and this guy to compete.
    4) Samuel Galindo – This guy will not feature for Arsenal so soon but he is worth to mention.
    5) Ryo Miyachi – He will be on loan again next season.
    6) Wellington Silva – He is struggling in Levante but will get better as he gains more experience.
    7) Ignasi Miquel- Arsenal Reserves captain will make an impression in the first team next season as back up to Vermaelan, Koscielny and the likes.

What do we need to buy?
    1) We definitely need a goalkeeper. Almunia, Fabianski and the likes.. Who is world class? No one. Recommended goalkeepers include: Hugo Lloris (Wenger is obsessed with France, if Lloris comes, we can possibly have France’s entire defence line), Manuel Neuer (he is more likely to play for Bayern Munich next season), Oscar Ustari (was selected for 2006 World Cup but faded. May pick up his career in Arsenal), Ochoa (there may be visa problems but he is world class), Sergio Asenjo (since A. Madrid have De Gea, we can buy Asenjo)

    2) Defender. Do we really need one? Let’s see who we have for next season. Djourou, Vermaelan, Koscielny, Squillaci, Miquel. Wenger will not buy a defender even the fans know that we need to buy one.

    3) Midfield. Too overcrowded. Maybe Wenger may just sign Hazard. A DM? Moussa Sissoko or Yann M’Vila are recommended.

    4) Attack. If Bendtner really goes ( I hope so), Wenger can maybe sign 1 striker such as Falcao (Benzema is on form now. Real will not sell him) to replace him or just use Vela to replace Bendtner.
