[VIDEO GOALS] West Brom 2-2 Arsenal: Almunia/Squillaci Horror-show As RVP Rescues Point For Gunners

By on March 19, 2011

Arsenal fell five points behind leaders Man Utd after yet another defensive mix-up, this time involving Almunia and Squillaci, costs the Gunners dear. West Brom were ahead inside 3 minutes through a Reid header and Arsenal should have equalised after Van Persie hit the post the ball fell the Ramsey but the midfielder shot straight at Carson.

The came the error that all Arsenal fans fear when Squillaci and Almunia are on the field. A straight forward long ball down the middle was completely misjudged by Squillaci but he was still goal-side of Odemwingie and at least 30 yards from goal, but from nowhere Almunia came steeming out of his box and clattered into the French defender, the ball fell to the West Brom striker who rolled the ball into an empty net from 25 yards. Embarrassing stuff from the Arsenal keeper and defender.

But the quality of Arsenal’s forward line soon told and the Gunners got back in the game thanks to a sweet Arshavin strike before Van Persie bundled home the equaliser minutes later. The draw now leaves Arsenal trailing United by 5 points after they scored a trademark last minute winner against Bolton. Do Arsenal have a chance of winning the league with Almunia and Squillaci playing every week? I’m not convinced! Watch highlights from the game below…

What a mess! Squillachi is at fault for both goals, first because he lost his man from the throw in leading to the corner, then on the second because he did not attack the ball in the air, instead he let it bounce to come to him. Of course the spanish waiter behind him had gone on a walk about 30 yards or so from his area for no apparent reason.
So once again we waisted 45 minutes with Denilson on the field before Wenger decided to pull mr. sideways out. Wenger should never ever play Almunia, Squillachi, Diaby, Denilson till the end of the season. Consider them Dead. Play Jens, Miquel, Henderson, Sunu or anyone else from the Reserves. They would do much better. PLEASE.
To add to our misery, MAN. UTD scored a goal on 88th minute just playing with 10 men. Talking about character, and winning mentality.

How many games has those named players caused us? You know when you see one of them in the line-up that something is going to happen. If I was Wenger, was going to put all of them on transfer right now because they do not deserve to play for the team. It is quite embarassing to look at the FA final and the game today. Some team are encourged by knowing that one way or another, even if they do not get a chance, it will be presented to them to score by one of our players. It is frustrating to watch this mess!!

The only way we are going to win the league is if we get Cesc, Theo and Song back after the international break and if they stay fit for the rest of the season.

I don’t even think we deserve to win the league with Squillaci, Almunia and Denilson in our team!

You worry that if we DO win the League Wenger will think he doesn’t have to get rid of them!

We were so poor today, it underlines a serious defect in our team, our manager’s tactics and our desire. The only competition we remain in and our players are slow, lethargic and showed no desire! They ought to be ashamed of themselves and are not fit to wear the Red & White of Arsenal.

it’s gonna be six long years now and i’m not sure hw much longer i can can hold it inside me…
every years Wenger finds an excuse, i dont blame the guy for rebuilding a team, i maybe going out on a limb here but 6 years is definitely enough.
this year’s excuse seems to be same from many years gone by, defense and almu-why is he here-nia.
i know we can still win the league but the chances are slimming by the way we are playing.

well at least we are still in the race in march compared to the prev ones but i dont see us winning it… the team has lost something in there. I can only blame Wenger for all this, if he only bought a good defender and a keeper during jan window we could have won this game. His economic theory which eventually is his bonus cause no money out is simply greed backed by the board and continue to extract money with hikes in ticket prices. They make the money we the fans left wounded. How much more longer can they fool us??
