[REVEALED] The Name Of Wenger’s Secret £20m Summer Bid

By on March 21, 2011

Arsenal coach Bob Wilson has revealed that Arsene Wenger tried to sign Pepe Reina in the summer submitting a club record £20m offer for the Liverpool man. There were rumours in the summer about this bid but now Wilson has confirmed the move as Wenger tried to solve the gunners clear goalkeeping problems that have plagued the club in recent seasons.

Speaking on Absolute Radio, Wilson claimed:

“He went for arguably the best goalkeeper in the country at the beginning of the season. He went for in the close season Pepe Reina.

“It didn’t become known. He [Arsene Wenger] doesn’t do it that way.

“He offered a huge amount of money, so he tried like mad to do that [deal].”

On one hand it’s good to hear Wenger was willing to splash some cash on a world class goalkeeper but equally frustrating that we didn’t land the player who i think would have us sitting top of the league if he was donning the famous Red & White. Reina has made no secret that he is unsettled at Liverpool and only this weekend stated once again that he wants to be challenging for honours, so there still may be a chance.

Although, Wilson believes that now Szczesny has been given a shot at the first team the Pole will be Arsenal first choice for several years to come.

“I happen to think that Szczesny will be in Arsenal’s goal for many years to come.”

Would Arsenal fans like to see Reina between the sticks next season or give Szczesny a chance?

Would love to see Reina at arsenal. He is easily the best keeper in the premiership, with Utd sniffing about for a new keeper, Arsenal need to grab this chance. Hopefully, it won’t be too late for this deal to materialise.

Reina already has been donning the ‘REAL’ RED & WHITE, for the past 6 years. The ones who have won 18 league championships and 5 European championships, 3 Euro cups and & 7 FA cups, amongst others !!!
However if he does want to leave LFC,then I would prefer him to go to ‘The Gunners’ rather than elsewhere !

Funny isn’t it, the reserve team keeper for Spain questions the ambition of the most succesful club in England?

No, I’d actually prefer if Szczezny was fit instead. Reina is a fantastic goalkeeper but Chezzer is excellent and he gets better with each game. He is young enough to be our number 1 for the next 10 years.

we need a keeper in his mid to late thirties who will pave the way for maybe 2 years for szczesny. reina is too young and he’s made a few errors this year that people don’t talk about. (vs Arsenal and vs Napoli, vs west ham) I’m fine with Szczesny. just has to work on corners and distribution. the recent clean sheets the club had is a testament of how good and calming he was

Dont need him, Sczcesney and Mannone we have perfecy no.1 and no.2 if Fabianski cannot handle the competition when he is fit that might be a problem, but i would not mind if Lehmann stayed as back up to the other 2 whilst Shea and Martinez get a year older. We could then maybe grab £3m for Fabianski (and keep season tickets at the same price) and get a packet of crisps for Almunia (those 10p pickled onion ones)

The deals i would most like to see this summer are
Diaby & Squillaci to Lille (for Hazard)
Bendntner & Rosicky to B Dortmund (for Subotic)
Denilson & Traore to Juventus (for Melo)
Almunia out (Mannone & Lehmann to step up)
Lansbury, Botelho, Bartley, Frimpong, Coquelin (also in)

If we could get Van der Weil and Vertonghen then we could sell Eboue, Clichy, Fabianski, Hoyte, Sunu, Watt and Randall to help fund it.

Most importantly though is we need to assess our injuries this summer Vermaelen, Djourou, Song, RVP, Fabregas and Walcott. These 6 are all first X1 players can we carry them if they are carrying knocks?? This is the question that needs to be asked.

I’d say Arsenal should start more offensive minded against smaller teams. We should show urgency from the 1st minute. See what happens when we had RVP, Chamakh and Bendtner on field against West Brom in the final minutes. Nasri should be playing in the middle with Wilshere. I prefer Eastmond rather than Denilson in a more defensive role. Arshavin and Bendtner out wide.

Fine for all but i biliv wen selling and buying players we shud considered one thing, just one thing the AW himself is a trouble, let him learn how to criticize his players rather than the ref most times.Let him be hard on them, then biliv me they wud behave.Squilaci, denilson, arshavin, diaby, almunia, all shud leave at the end of the league.
