Arsenal will be looking to maintain their position at the top of the table when they take on Brentford at the Community Stadium on Sunday lunchtime.

The game was originally scheduled to take place at 2pm on Sunday afternoon but was brought forward to 12pm kick-off. Several other games this weekend have been postponed due to police shortages ahead of Queen Elizabeth’s funeral on Monday.

Arsenal’s Europa League group stage clash with PSV Eindhoven – which was due to be played on Thursday night – has been also postponed so Mikel Arteta will just be relieved the trip to Brentford is going ahead.

The Gunners head into the weekend action sitting top of the Premier League table – one point clear of Manchester City – having taken 15 points from their opening six matches. Arteta will want to at least maintain that advantage with a win over Brentford.

However, the Bees won’t be an easy task as they’ve also started the new campaign well and sit eighth in the standing with 9 points from six games. Brentford also won this fixture last season so Arsenal will know not to take this game too lightly.

Betting odds

Arsenal are the favourites to win on Sunday with UFABET pricing the North Londoners at 3/4 to take home all three points. The draw is available at 27/10 while Brentford can be backed at 16/5 – which could tempt some punters considering they beat Arsenal at home last season.

Gabriel Jesus has been excellent since joining the Gunners from City in the summer and the Brazilian is 4/1 to open the scoring in this match. Ivan Toney is the danger-man for Brentford and he’s 11/2 to break the deadlock.

Arsenal will be high in confidence heading into this game and should just edge it, so a 2-1 away win looks good at 7/1. If we add Jesus to score first in a 2-1 Arsenal victory then we can get odds of 38/1.

Team news

Arsenal will give a late fitness test to Thomas Partey ahead of the game. The Ghanaian international has missed the last four matches with a thigh injury but is back in full training. He may not be one of the fastest players in the world but Partey is still hugely important for Arsenal so Arteta will be praying for his return on Sunday.

Emile Smith Rowe is certain to miss out this weekend as he continues to recover from a groin injury that he sustained following the defeat to Manchester United earlier this month.

Mohamed Elneny is facing ‘months’ on the sidelines with a thigh injury while Reiss Nelson is also still out with a hamstring issue.

As for Brentford, they’ll be without Christian Norgaard due to a calf injury while Ethan Pinnock is also out with a knee issue. Sergi Canos Tenes will need a late fitness check on a thigh injury.

Prediction

Arsenal have enjoyed an excellent start to the new season and are playing some wonderful football. They look more solid at the back and are dangerous going forward with Jesus being supported by Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, so they’ll always create chances.

Brentford will no doubt give a good account of themselves on home soil and will give Arsenal a good game, but we expect the Gunners to edge it and take home all three points. Brentford 1-2 Arsenal
