Manchester United have been the latest side to be linked with a move to bring Inter Milan’s Flying Dutchman to the club when the transfer window reopens.
The Red Devils are planning to break a club record fee to sign Wesley Sneijder. The current transfer record at the club is £30.75 million, when manager Sir Alex Ferguson brought in Bulgarian hitman Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham Hotspur in 2008.
Former Inter Milan manager Jose Mourinho signed Wesley Sneijder from Real Madrid for a bargain £15 million. The 26-year-old than played a big role in his first season for the club when Inter Milan won an amazing and sensational treble of the Serie A, Coppa Italia and the prestigious UEFA Champions League.
Sneijder was then voted the second best player in the 2010 Fifa World Cup while featuring for his national side, Netherlands. Despite falling slightly behind the tournament’s best player, Diego Forlan from Uruguay, Sneijder inspired his side to march all the way into the finals of the cup before bowing out to champions Spain.
Sir Alex Ferguson is likely to bring the Dutchman into Old Trafford as a replacement for veteran midfielder Paul Scholes, 36, who is likely to retire soon. Manchester United have been lacking a regular marksman or a great assist maker and Wesley Sneijder matches their criteria perfectly.
