In this article we look at the easiest and safest way to buy tickets for the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, to be held in Australia and New Zealand.

While not as popular as its male counterpart, the Women’s Football World Cup is still a show worthy of viewing. The first Women’s World Cup, then called the Women’s World Championship, was organized in 1991.  And unlike the men’s competition, the most successful team at the women’s event has been the United States, with four wins.

Still, the team roster in the women’s edition features many recognizable powerhouses. For example, the 2019 Women’s World Cup had the teams of England, France, Italy, Spain, Brazil, and Argentina. Brazil, Germany, and some other teams have qualified for every Women’s World Cup held so far, affirming their strength both in men’s and women’s football. The 2023 Women’s World Cup will also have more national teams than ever before (32 teams).

Ticket pricing

As for ticket accessibility and pricing, the Women’s World Cup is no stranger to high prices, even if it’s played by women rather than men. For some, the ticket costs are worth the long-awaited event. Just ask the Taylor Swift fans, for example. As shown by ExpressVPN, Men’s Wimbledon Final had the highest-priced sports tickets of 2023.

Meanwhile, the Women’s FA Cup final had resale ticket prices soar by 428%. At FIFA’s official website, the  2023 Women’s World Cup ticket prices for an adult range from 40 AUD to 120 AUD, depending on the match – the group stage, semi-final, final, etc. all have different ticket prices. 1 AUD (Australian dollar) currently equals 0,67 USD, meaning those prices are between 26 and 80 USD.  This could be regarded as affordable compared to other major events and concerts. But travel costs to Australia and New Zealand should be added unless you live in one of those countries. All prices are charged in AUD, regardless of where the tickets are bought from.

When it comes to viewership figures, FIFA’s official website reports 1.12 billion people watched the 2019 World Cup on TV at home, on digital platforms, or out-of-home. This has been regarded as a record for the competition. Traditional television accounted for the majority of views. The final between the United States and the Netherlands became the most-watched women’s football World Cup match ever, with an average live audience of 82.18 million.

Easily and officially

Obviously, the easiest way to get tickets for the 2023 Women’s World Cup is to buy them through the FIFA website. The tournament is scheduled to begin on 20 July, but the last minute sales phase began on 11 April 2023. Strictly speaking, FIFA’s website is the only place selling authorized tickets for the event. To buy them, fans must first create their own FIFA ticketing account with specific information to complete. In January this year, FIFA reported that over 500 thousand tickets had already been sold to fans from over 120 countries.

Other than safety in general, there are some other perks in buying the tickets through FIFA’s website. The website contains an official schedule of matches and a Digital Fan Guide that helps both before and after ticket purchases. It also cautions that there will be no ticket sales at the stadiums throughout the tournament, so all tickets must be pre-purchased. If any match gets canceled, rescheduled, relocated or held on a reduced stadium capacity for some reasons, the person who bought the ticket through the official FIFA website will be entitled to a refund equal to the ticket price.
