Chelsea are expected to pick over 23 points more than last season, mainly at the expense of west London rivals Brentford and Fulham.

That’s according to the betting experts at bookmakers.tv who have analysed the points predictions from various betting sites in the build up to the new Premier League season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s latest project will see Chelsea trying to bounce back from their lowest points total since they were last relegated from the top flight in 1988. There can be few doubts that the Argentine is a significant upgrade on Frank Lampard, and the signings of Christopher Nkunku and and Nicolas Jackson should both improve The Blues’ goal scoring problems. However, the injury to Nkunku is a significant setback so meeting the expectations of bookmakers, and indeed of Chelsea’s fans and board, may yet prove a tough assignment.

If Chelsea are set to put last year’s woes behind them, betting sites are painting a far more uncertain picture for both Brentford and Fulham. The Bees are expected to drop 13 points from the heights of last season, as they try to find a way to cope without Ivan Toney until mid-January, while the loss of David Raya is also a big blow even if it was expected.

As for Fulham, they may have successfully seen off Saudi interest in manager Marco Silva, but rumours continue to swirl regarding the futures of two key players in Aleksandar Mitrovic and Willian. Whether this will really result in the anticipated 11 point fall off remains to be seen, but suffice to say they’ll be counting down to the end of the summer transfer window.

At the top of the league, Manchester City are expected to be even more dominant than last time out, winning another title and extending their lead over Arsenal to 10 points, whilst five teams are expected to fall before the magic 40 point mark in the battle for survival. Sheffield Utd (31 points) and Luton (30) have both struggled to add enough quality to their squads and it’s Nottingham Forest (37) who are also deemed likely to fall short. Time will tell whether Julen Lopetegui’s departure from Molineux ends up proving the betting sites wrong.
