Tottenham Showing Huge Potential Under Postegclou

Tottenham are showing signs of huge improvement under new boss Ange Postecoglou. We look at the current state of Spurs under the Aussie.

Ange-Postecoglou

Everyone with Spurs tickets will agree to one statement – “Postegclou is the best thing that’s happened to Spurs in a long time.”

And the proof of this statement continues to live beyond the Manchester City vs. Spurs game from the previous week.

A strong City side had to go 3-3 against the Spurs in a game that ended chaotically with the referee stopping play on what might have been the turnaround opportunity for City. Nevertheless, all those with Spurs tickets were witnessing something special when they saw the team in action on the day, with them dominating all aspects of play.

And the impact the Australian manager is having on the team is immense.

Man City 3 – Tottenham 3

The Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur was one of those memorable clashes in the Premier League this season. While it ended as a draw, it felt like a victory for the Spurs, who were putting up a scintillating display of football amidst injuries.

Against all odds, the side ended up securing a point against the reigning champions of Europe, which clearly indicated where Ange Postecoglou’s taking the club.

The draw felt like coming after Tottenham had to fall back twice in the game. The first half was 45 minutes of intent, with pressure situations, where City tried to infiltrate the defense several times.

But, amidst all the chaos, there was a sense of vindication for Postecoglou’s tactics in holding off the opposition.

Haaland was visibly frustrated upon leaving the pitch, coupled with a confrontation with Giovani Lo Celso, which might have felt like a small victory. The chaos aligns with the playing style of the manager, a touch of unpredictability in navigating situations.

What’s great to see is that the 3-3 draw could’ve turned into City’s win at any moment with their clinical finishing and the overall display of football. City would’ve had an easy way through if it had been any other club.

But the bold tactics, with the team spirit and discipline, stopped this from happening. Postecoglous understands Guardiola well and knows that stopping City means it is more than just end-to-end football. It needed something bigger.

And that’s what he brought to the table.

The match was not just another ordinary encounter, with its top-tier nature, but also an indication of Tottenham’s squad depth and the manager’s resolve to stick to his philosophy even in dire circumstances. And all with Spurs tickets are just loving it.

With several injuries before the game, playing away from home, the Spurs had to adapt. They ended up shifting from an aggressive high line to a deep defensive strategy, adjusting to what was available in the squad as the attacking nature of their opponents.

Despite City’s relentless attacks, Spurs capitalized on their counter-attack speed, which led to their goals. Spurs replied in time and did not take the excessive pressure of trailing. The equalizer came in the game’s dying moments, and that was the draw.

Ultimately, the draw seemed fair and stood as a testament to Postecoglou’s approach. It provided evidence amid the chaos that something substantial might be brewing at Tottenham under his management.

It was a moral win for the Spurs fans who made it to the Etihad. Despite the recent losses, this recognized their faith in the club.

Dejan Kulusevski backs Tottenham’s Fearless Gameplan

Dejan Kulusevski, who brought in the equalizer in the 90th minute against Man City, highlighted the team’s ability to counter any situation, which propels them to compete with any team globally.

With the 3-3 draw, Kulusevski brought to light that the team’s strength lies in their chemistry, which helps them deliver such high-tier performances.

He spoke highly of Ange Postecoglou’s fearless mentality, echoing his approach of giving it all with heart and no fear of failure. He commended the manager’s aggressive attack style, which is now the Spurs’ new identity. But, he adds that more maturity will come in this style since the team is adopting it this season.

While understanding that the Spurs weren’t flawless against City, especially in defense, Kulusevski pointed out their ability to go toe-to-toe with an elite team like City is a statement on its own. Earlier, the Spurs were seen as an ordinary force despite the big names, but this season, every team is practicing with intent when they play the Spurs.

The attitude shift with the Spurs is unreal.

He stressed the need for mental growth, suggesting that with the right mindset, Tottenham possesses all the necessary elements to reach the top.

With Kulusevski recognized as the Player of the Match for his overall performance, which capped off with a goal in the dying stages, he acknowledged that his good form this season and determination to deliver at the same level helps him stay on top in the Tottenham starting XI.

Spurs Targeting Key Transfers in January

With the transfer market reopening in January, Spurs already have eyes on a few prospective players who could blend in well with the North London club. One such Player is Dezel Dumfries, the 27-year-old Inter Milan defender.

The club could have had a better defense line, evidently shown in the City game, and their squad dept was a critical reason that Big Ange’ is looking for defenders who can bring in the difference.

Currently on contract with Inter Milan, Dumfries has proven to be an A-list defender at the club and international levels.

His contract, extending until 2025, awaits renewal, sparking speculation about his future. Reports suggest Spurs might leverage Emerson Royal if the terms are good or offer Dumfries €35 million. This could go either way, but internal reports indicate that the manager desperately wants high end talent at the back.

Currently, at the Spurs, Pedro Porro has the right back spot, and now, if the Dumfries deal goes through, there will be strict competition for the spot.

Competition for places can benefit both players, enhancing the squad’s overall quality. Dumfries has been previously linked with a move to the Premier League, making it intriguing to see if Tottenham can secure his services in the upcoming transfer windows.
