Arsenal Transfer Gossip: Gunners Linked With Striker

By on May 5, 2011

This player has been consistently linked to Arsenal this season and to many other clubs around Europe. He has been a huge sensation in the German Bundesliga this season with his top-class performances and goals, this player is Senegalese international Papiss Demba Cisse.

People who don’t watch the Bundesliga will most likely not know who he is, so I’ll give a brief report about him. Papiss Cisse is a Senegalese international who currently plays for Freiburg, he was born in Dakar, Senegal on June 3, 1985. He began his career with AS Generation Foot before moving to French club, FC Metz, in the summer of 2005. He was loaned out to two clubs (Cherbourg and Chateauroux) before settling at Metz, he scored 25 goals in 71 games for the club until he left for SC Freiburg in the summer of 2009.

Papiss Cisse, is strong, dynamic, who’s well-built physically (he’s exactly 6 ft tall) and has a good eye for goal. He has scored 20 goals in 27 games so far this season and has been one of the big sensations and surprises in the Bundesliga this season, not only for his excellent performances, but for his high scoring record as he was never known as a top scorer displayed by his previous scoring records ( FC Metz: 25 in 71 apps, Chateauroux: 11 in 28 apps, and in his first season with Freiburg: 6 in 16 apps in the German Second Division). Obviously, Papiss has exploded this season and is now a big target for many clubs including the Gunners, he has previously stated that he wants to stay at SC Freiburg, but if a team like the Gunners comes for him, it will be difficult for him to say no. His value, in my opinion, will range from 7 to 10 million pounds.

Here are some videos displaying his talent:

What do you think? Do you think Papiss Cisse is worth it? Is it a risk? Should Wenger go for him? Please share your thoughts.

Cheers and take care,

Omar –

Good point…. I’m a big fan of Hulk and his partner in crime Falcao. He would be a great addition to the squad.

    I wouldn’t buy him.

    1. We have 2 strikers who are strong in the air
    2. Even though he has scored many goals, he does waste many chances, esp. those on the ground
    3. He is not quick
    4. We don’t deliver enough quality crosses into the box
    5. Technically lacking

That’s a fair opinion, you’re probably talking about Chamakh and Bendtner, they’re excellent in the air, but they’re not given many opportunities especially Chamakh and there are rumors, that both could leave.

Papiss can be a good addition to the squad, who knows?

      We’ll see this summer.

I’m not convinced by these videos. He looks like a decent striker but I didn’t see anything that can be considered technically superior. If anything, he seems to be able to put himself into a good position to score, but hey, sometimes that’s all it takes!I think we need someone who will be very strong on the 1v1 as we don’t seem to have a team that can deliver the ball from the flanks. Unless Wenger addresses that, we will probably have to continue pushing up through the center.

Yeah, the videos mainly show his predatory instincts, but that’s a skill as well, right?

      Thanks for commenting.
