Arsenal’s Robin Van Persie may not play again this season

Arsenal's Robin Van Persie

By Fab4.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has given an update on Robin Van Persie’s injury, with his comeback now not expected until May. There had been hopes that Van Persie could be back in early April, but Wenger soon moved that back until at least mid-April. Now the Arsenal forward isn’t expected to make an appearance until May according to his manager.

Wenger confirmed the news to Arsenal TV Online:

“There is still a little chance; we monitor his progress and he is doing very, very well. Physically he is quite sharp.

“The fitness coach Tony Colbert went to test his fitness and he is in quite a good condition.

“When he is ready to kick the ball again he will come back from his rehabilitation and it will still take three weeks. If you add him coming back plus three weeks we will still be in May.”

This is not what Gooners wanted to hear. I had slim hopes that RVP could be back for the potential champions league semi’s and the Manchester City game at the end of April, but there is no hopes of that now. After a disastrous quarter final draw in the champions league, we could do with RVP being back to face Barca….but there’s no chance of that. Arsene won’t take any risks with Van Persie, so unless he makes a remarkably quick recovery in the next couple of weeks we won’t be seeing him pull on the Arsenal shirt any time soon.

We may not even see him again this season bearing in mind the penultimate league game against Blackburn game is on the 1st May and the final premier league game of the season  is on the 9th May. Hopefully he could make a spectacular return in the final of the champions league against Manchester United on the 22nd May…that would be nice wouldn’t it!
