Buffon Speaks On a Move to Arsenal

By on May 15, 2011

With third place far from guaranteed, Arsenal will be reviewing their problems over the summer, and working out what areas need improving. A top quality, experienced goalkeeper may be on Arsene Wenger’s transfer wish-list, but it will not be Gianluigi Buffon of Juventus, as the Italian confirmed his position:

“Next year I will still be at Juventus.”

“I don’t think there is such a possibility of me going to Arsenal. My intentions and that of the club are to continue together.”

“It’s been a disappointing season, we missed too many opportunities. Now Europe is the minimum target and is a question of dignity.”

In his prime, Buffon was considered one of the best, if not the best goalkeeper in the world and in 2006 he was part of the Italian side who won the greatest honours a footballer can – the World Cup. He is a commanding and well respected goalkeeper who has won everything there is to win in Italy and may have been looking for a new challenge.

However he has now confirmed otherwise now, and if Arsenal were to look for a new goalkeeper, Buffon would not be the one.

Tell me what you think!

We havent a problem with the defence or goal keeper.. So many fans (and Arsene Wenger) blame the defence but its our tactics and attack that has cost us.
Fact:We averaged 73% possession in our last 20 games.
Fact: We averaged under 2 goals a game.
Wengers 4-5-1 into 4-3-3 plays as 4-6-0.No penetration, we cant score from set pieces or outside the box plus Its easy to defend against and counter. tactics need to be changed at the front as too many teams have wised up,and learnt how to deal with Wengers two dimensional attack. Straight through the middle eh Arsene

Why are people still banging on about us signing a new keeper? WS & LF are more than good enough and we have a few younger keepers that are very adequate backup to them. We need our midfielders and strikers to start converting more of the chances we make into goals. We’re far too wasteful in front of goal and that’s what needs to be sorted.

buffon would have been an excellent in 2008 but now i don’t believe he is the right person for us to sign when goalkeepers like stekenberg,ADLER of leverkusen,Degea are still available
