Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly held talks with Manchester City over a deal to sign Omar Marmoush, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The 27-year-old came into the spotlight having displayed impressive performances for Eintracht Frankfurt. In 39 appearances across all competitions, he made 23 goal contributions during the 2023/24 campaign.
The forward even took his game to another level during the first half of the 2024/25 season, scoring 20 goals and registering 13 assists in 26 matches in all tournaments.
After being impressed by him, the Citizens decided to purchase him in January 2025. However, he has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League and remained on the periphery under Pep Guardiola last term, starting only 10 games across the Champions League and Premier League.
Still, Marmoush continues to play a key role in the Egyptian national team’s starting line-up.
Now, on Givemesport’s Market Madness podcast, Romano states that Tottenham are currently focused on strengthening the flanks, and once they have done that, if they have the funds and the right opportunity arises in the market, they will make a move for a new striker.
The Lilywhites are interested in Marmoush and held talks with Man City over a potential move at the beginning of this window. However, Enzo Maresca’s side don’t want to let the forward leave.
Marmoush to Tottenham
The forward is valued at around £43m by Transfermarkt and still has a contract until 2029. Therefore, Man City aren’t in any rush to sell him this summer.
Marmoush is a versatile right-footed forward. Although he is a striker by trait, he can provide cover on the flanks. Moreover, he can be deployed as a second striker.
The Egyptian is quick, strong, efficient at taking set-pieces, has an eye for scoring goals from distance, and also works hard without possession.
Despite Marmoush’s recent struggles at the Etihad Stadium, he is a talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Tottenham should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services.
