Liverpool are reportedly battling with Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal over a deal to sign Chelsea forward Pedro Neto, as per the Blues journalist Simon Phillips.
Following Mohamed Salah’s departure and Hugo Ekitike’s serious injury, the Merseyside club have prioritised revamping the attacking department this summer.
They have already purchased Victor Muñoz from Osasuna but want more, as Cody Gakpo has been linked with a move away, while Rio Ngumoha is still very young and needs time to develop.
On the other hand, Federico Chiesa has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League since joining from Juventus a couple of years ago.
Initially, the Reds wanted to sign Yan Diomande, but he has decided to join Real Madrid. So, Andoni Iraola’s side have shifted focus to buying Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain.
However, Les Parisiens want an exorbitant fee of around £145m to sell their star man, with his existing deal set to run until 2028. Alongside Barcola, Liverpool are also keen on signing Ibrahim Mbaye.
It appears that, after learning of PSG’s huge valuation for Barcola, Liverpool are lining up cheaper alternative options if they eventually fail to sign the Frenchman.
Battle
Now, Phillips(via TEAMtalk) reports that Liverpool are interested in Neto and Chelsea would be open to cashing-in on him this summer for a fee up to £75m. The forward is even open to exploring options to leave, although his existing deal is set to run until 2031.
However, the Reds will have to overcome fierce competition to seal the deal as Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester City are also considering making a move. But the Gunners don’t see the Portuguese international as a priority target.
Tottenham struggled with fitness problems in the attacking department last campaign. As a result, it appears the Lilywhites are planning to bolster this area.
On the other hand, Arsenal are said to be keen on revamping the left flank this summer and have been linked with numerous names, with Neto emerging as a new target.
The Chelsea star is a versatile Premier League-proven player and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal, Liverpool or Tottenham should any of those clubs purchase him.
