Manchester United are reportedly prioritising signing Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall, as per The Sun.
After coming through Chelsea’s youth system, the 21-year-old joined the Magpies in 2023. He initially signed for the Tyneside club on loan before the deal became permanent a couple of years ago.
Hall has shown glimpses of his qualities in the Premier League in recent seasons, helping his side win the Carabao Cup last year.
Although Newcastle displayed inconsistent performances last campaign, the youngster showcased his qualities, making three goal contributions and keeping four clean sheets in 46 appearances across all competitions.
Now, The Sun report that although Man Utd have been offered the chance to sign Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly, they are prioritising signing Hall to reinforce the left-back position.
With the player’s existing deal set to run until 2029, Newcastle are desperate to keep hold of him, having already allowed Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali to leave.
However, the former Chelsea defender is open to moving to Old Trafford this summer, with the player valued at around £34m by Transfermarkt.
Hall to Man Utd
Hall is a technically gifted left-footed left-back but is also efficient in the LWB role. Furthermore, he can provide cover in the engine room if needed.
He is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, and can play threading passes between the lines. Moreover, he reads the game well and is efficient in defensive contributions.
Hall is a Premier League-proven player and isn’t a finished article yet. He possesses the potential to become a top-class defender in the future. Therefore, he would be a great coup for Man Utd should they purchase him.
Luke Shaw has been the first-choice left-back option for Man Utd, although he has struggled with fitness problems over the years. With his existing deal set to expire at the end of this season, United are seemingly looking to replace the former Southampton star finally.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the 20-time English champions eventually manage to lure Hall away from St James’ Park before the September 1st transfer deadline.
