Man Utd set to open talks to sign Club Brugge fullback Joaquin Seys

Manchester United are set to open talks to sign exciting Belgian fullback Joaquin Seys from Club Brugge this summer, according to the Mirror.

The Belgian began his football journey at Oostende before switching to Brugge’s academy in 2012, where he continued his development through the youth ranks.

His progress eventually earned him a senior debut in the Belgian Super Cup, featuring in a 2-1 defeat to Union Saint-Gilloise on July 20, 2024.

Just days later, he marked his Jupiler Pro League debut with a goal during a 1-1 draw against KV Mechelen, setting the tone for a rapid rise that has seen him emerge as one of the most exciting fullbacks in Belgium and an important player for Brugge.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a remarkable 2025-26 campaign, featuring in all 51 of Club Brugge’s matches across competitions. He finished the season with five goals and eight assists, with his displays attracting interest from several clubs.

Now, according to the Mirror, Man Utd are set to open talks with Brugge to discuss the possible transfer of Seys to Old Trafford this summer.

Exciting fullback

The Red Devils are looking to sign a new left-back and have been linked with Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall and Racing Santander’s Jorge Salinas, according to the report.

However, the report adds that the Magpies are adamant about retaining Hall at St James’ Park this summer, while Salinas is expected to remain at Racing.

As a result, the club have turned to other targets, with the Mirror adding that United are now ready to discuss a possible £30m deal to sign Seys from Brugge this summer.

Seys’ manager Ivan Leko, who won the Jupiler Pro League title with the 21-year-old as his starting left-back, is already familiar with his qualities. Following the youngster’s cameo against Spain in the World Cup semi-final, Leko lauded his performance and revealed he could make a strong impression in the Premier League.

He said, ‘I see Seys reaching the absolute top of the Premier League; in my opinion, he has no ceiling. He has the talent, the character, and, above all, the right mentality. He is often the first to arrive here and the last to leave.’

The Belgian is defensively solid and has the pace to support the attack and quickly track back. He would be an exciting addition to United’s squad, and £30m could prove a bargain if the move is completed.
