Manchester United are reportedly battling with Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea over a deal to sign Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi, as per Caught Offside.
After moving to Jan Breydel Stadium from Hannover 96 last summer, the 21-year-old enjoyed a promising debut campaign, scoring 22 goals and registering six assists in 51 appearances across all competitions.
Moreover, he helped his side win the Belgian Pro League and Belgian Super Cup last season. This campaign, Tresoldi has started impressively, scoring twice in as many games.
Now, Caught Offside claim that after being impressed by the youngster’s recent development, Man Utd, Chelsea and Tottenham have expressed their interest in signing him.
United want a new striker to create competition for Benjamin Sesko as they are prepared to cash-in on Joshua Zirkzee. On the other hand, Chelsea are prepared to let Liam Delap and Nicolas Jackson leave and want Tresoldi to support João Pedro.
Tottenham, meanwhile, are keen on reinforcing the frontline having already upgraded the defence and midfield. Moreover, the report state that Arsenal previously expressed their interest in Tresoldi but are unlikely to make a move anymore.
AS Roma are also in this race and have already launched a formal £30m proposal, but Club Brugge have rejected the offer as they want up to £43m, with his existing deal set to run until 2029.
Battle
CO report that despite growing interest from the Premier League clubs in Tresoldi, Barcelona are currently the frontrunners in this race, having already accelerated their efforts to finalise the operation.
The Blaugrana want a new striker following Robert Lewandowski’s departure, while Ferran Torres is closing in on a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Hansi Flick’s side have identified Julian Alvarez as the primary target, but Atlético Madrid are refusing to allow him to join a direct rival. So, Barcelona have been forced to explore alternative options.
Tresoldi is a 6ft tall right-footed striker. He is a talented player and possesses high potential. So, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal, Chelsea or Man Utd should any of those clubs purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether any of the Premier League clubs can manage to secure his services by defeating Barcelona in this race.
