Everton eye move to sign Tottenham’s Pape Matar Sarr

Everton are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pape Matar Sarr, as per Afrik-Foot.
After being impressed by the 23-year-old’s performances for French side Metz, the Lilywhites decided to purchase him. They completed the deal in 2021, but he didn’t join the club until the following year.
However, the youngster has mainly featured as a rotational option in recent years, helping his side win the Europa League last year. Despite his struggles to break into Tottenham’s starting line-up, he has been a regular member of the Senegal national team.
Now, Afrik-Foot report that following Tottenham’s decision to sign Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali by spending big money, Sarr is set to fall in the pecking order.
So, the Lilywhites are prepared to cash-in on him for a fee of around £21m plus bonuses this summer, although his existing deal is set to run until 2030.
Following Idrissa Gana Gueye’s departure as a free agent, Everton have bolstered the midfield department by purchasing Christian Norgaard from Arsenal in this window.
However, the Toffees want a new midfielder and are planning to sign Gueye’s compatriot, Sarr, by taking advantage of his current situation.
Sarr to Everton
The report state that Nottingham Forest have identified Sarr as a serious option to replace Elliot Anderson, who has joined Manchester City. So, Everton will have to overcome stiff competition to finalise the operation.
Sarr, standing at 6ft 1in tall, is a versatile midfielder as he can play anywhere across the middle of the park. He is quick, strong, and works hard without possession.
The African is a talented player and hasn’t reached his prime yet. He even possesses the necessary attributes to flourish in David Moyes’ system. Therefore, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Everton should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Merseyside club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services before the September 1st transfer deadline day.
Meanwhile, alongside Norgaard, Everton have also signed Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough to upgrade the engine room. So, Moyes currently has the duo plus James Garner and Tim Iroegbunam as options to deploy in the deeper midfield positions.
