Everton eye move to sign Fulham’s Timothy Castagne

Everton are reportedly interested in signing Fulham defender Timothy Castagne, as per The Athletic.
After moving to Craven Cottage from Leicester City in 2023, the 30-year-old enjoyed a promising debut campaign, making four goal contributions and keeping eight clean sheets in 34 league appearances.
However, the Belgian has mainly featured as a rotational option over the last two campaigns. Still, he managed to secure his place in Belgium’s World Cup squad, helping his country reach the quarter-final before losing to eventual champions Spain.
With his existing deal set to expire at the end of this season, speculation surrounding his future has been emerging in this summer transfer window.
Now, The Athletic report that Everton are exploring the possibilities of addressing their right-back issues and have identified Castagne as a serious option. Apart from the Fulham star, the Toffees are also interested in Crystal Palace star Daniel Muñoz.
Castagne is a right-footed versatile fullback. He is comfortable in the RB and RWB roles; moreover, he can provide cover on the opposite side if needed.
He is quick, technically sound, comfortable playing out from the back, and is efficient going forward. Moreover, the defender is solid in defensive contributions.
Castagne to Everton
Following Seamus Coleman’s departure, the Merseyside club currently have Nathan Patterson as the only specialist right-back option. However, he has had numerous fitness problems over the last few years.
So, David Moyes has deployed Jake O’Brien in the RB position, although he is a towering centre-back by trait. Moreover, James Garner also provided cover in this area at times last term.
Castagne is a talented player and is still at the prime stage of his career. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Everton should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Merseyside club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services during this offseason.
Meanwhile, having battled for survival over the last few years, Everton challenged for European places under Moyes last campaign, although they ultimately finished in the Premier League’s mid-table.
Everton have signed Hayden Hackney, Brennan Johnson and Christian Norgaard this summer to continue the rebuild under Moyes’ guidance. Moreover, they have made Tyrique George and Merlin Rohl’s loan deal permanent.
