Everton battling with PL rivals to sign Joshua Zirkzee

Everton are reportedly battling with Premier League rivals over a deal to sign Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee, as per Football Insider.
After joining Bologna from Bayern Munich back in 2022, the 25-year-old initially took time to settle into his new surroundings before displaying promising performances during the 2023/24 campaign.
In 37 appearances across all competitions, the Dutchman made 18 goal contributions. Having been attracted by him, United decided to purchase him a couple of years ago.
However, he has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League thus far. Moreover, he has found himself on the periphery since Michael Carrick’s arrival as the manager.
Now, Football Insider report that Man Utd are planning to cash-in on Zirkzee before the September 1st transfer deadline, and Everton have shown an interest in signing him.
The Toffees want a new striker late in this window and have been impressed by Zirkzee’s technical qualities. Moreover, they admire his work rate and value his Premier League experience.
However, the report state that Everton will have to overcome stiff competition to seal the deal, as Newcastle United are also in this race, while he has attracted interest from Italy.
Zirkzee to Everton
The Netherlands international is a 6ft 4in tall right-footed striker, but he isn’t a traditional No.9; instead, he likes to play a withdrawn role. He is strong, can link up the play, is good in the air, and can finish off his chances.
David Moyes likes having tall strikers and bought Thierno Barry from Villarreal last summer. Following an average debut campaign, the Frenchman has enjoyed a stellar start this season.
Moreover, the Scottish boss has Beto as the backup striker. But he has entered the final few months of his current contract; as a result, it appears Everton want a new forward.
Zirkzee, valued at around £17m by Transfermarkt, is a talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Everton should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Merseyside club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services.
