Liverpool reach agreement with PSG to sign Barcola

Liverpool have reportedly reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain over a deal to sign Bradley Barcola, as per transfer expert David Ornstein.

Following Mohamed Salah’s departure, the Reds decided to purchase Victor Munoz from Osasuna early this summer. Apart from the Spaniard, Andoni Iraola currently has Cody Gakpo, Rio Ngumoha and Federico Chiesa as winger options.

However, Chiesa has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League since joining from Juventus a couple of years ago, while Ngumoha is still very young and needs time to develop.

Gakpo has been a regular starter on the left flank but has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur in this window. So, Liverpool wanted a new forward.

The Merseyside club identified Barcola as a top target and have been in negotiations with PSG to seal the deal over the past few weeks. They even previously agreed on personal terms with him.

Now, on The Athletic, Ornstein reports that Liverpool have finally reached an agreement with Les Parisiens to sign Barcola for a £120m financial package. Iraola’s side are set to pay £100m in guaranteed fee plus £20m in add-ons. Some details still need to be clarified before the deal gets done.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano backs Ornstein’s claim with his trademark ‘here we go’ post and adds that Liverpool and PSG are set to exchange documents over the next 24 hours.

Barcola to Liverpool

Barcola is a right-footed left-winger. He is quick, strong, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, and can create opportunities for fellow attackers. Moreover, he works hard without possession.

The Frenchman has enjoyed great success under Luis Enrique over the last two seasons and has showcased his productivity. He has even secured his place in the France national team. However, he struggled to break into PSG’s starting line-up in big Champions League games.

Barcola is a top-class player and possesses the necessary physical attributes to flourish in the Premier League. Moreover, he isn’t a finished article yet; therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Liverpool.

Meanwhile, following a 2-2 draw against Newcastle United in the opening Premier League encounter last weekend, Liverpool are set to face Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday.
