Chelsea are progressing in talks with Monaco over the transfer of exciting Senegalese midfielder Lamine Camara to Stamford Bridge this summer, according to Santi Aouna.
Camara has emerged as another promising Senegalese talent making his mark in European football after developing at the prestigious Génération Foot academy.
His senior breakthrough in Europe came after he joined Metz B in February 2023, and his performances quickly earned him a first-team opportunity. Just two months later, he made his debut for the senior side in a 3-0 Ligue 2 victory over Bordeaux.
Although his involvement remained limited during the final month of that campaign, Camara soon became a regular starter after Metz secured promotion to Ligue 1 for the 2023-24 season. He featured 31 times that term before completing a move to Monaco the following season.
The 22-year-old has since developed into one of France’s most exciting midfielders, with his strength in duels particularly standing out last season. He averaged an impressive 6.02 duels won per 90 minutes in Ligue 1, highlighting the physical edge he can bring to midfield.
Significant progress
It’s no surprise he’s been heavily linked with Chelsea, with recent reports saying the club have shown interest in the midfielder.
Now, according to Santi Aouna, Chelsea are making significant progress in negotiations over the transfer of Camara to Stamford Bridge this summer.
Barring any disruptions, the French journalist adds that the Blues are optimistic about finalising the transfer, which could see the Senegalese omitted from Monaco’s squad for their Ligue 1 matchweek 2 clash with Marseille.
Amid reports of Enzo Fernandez’s potential departure, Chelsea’s interest in Camara makes sense, particularly as he could be a potential midfield partner for Moisés Caicedo next season. His ability to win tackles and dominate duels has earned plenty of recognition, but there is more to his game than his defensive work.
The 22-year-old also offers composure and quality in possession, averaging 51.6 accurate passes per 90 in Ligue 1 last season. That figure was marginally higher than Enzo Fernández’s 50.6 per 90 in the Premier League, further highlighting Camara’s ability to contribute effectively when his side has the ball.
With Aouna claiming that talks to sign Camara are advancing, it’ll be interesting to see how much Chelsea will pay, as Monaco are likely to demand a fee above his £34m Transfermarkt valuation.
