Tottenham Hotspur identify AC Milan winger Christian Pulisic as Cody Gakpo alternative

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to sign another offensive name in the ongoing transfer window after acquiring Omar Marmoush and Savinho from Manchester City, as they still continue to be winless two Premier League games into the season.

Cody Gakpo was linked with a switch to London in recent weeks but it appears he may now stay at Liverpool or if he does leave, Man City are now in pole position, so the Lilywhites have shortlisted an alternative.

Graeme Bailey has reported that Tottenham are now looking to sign AC Milan winger Christian Pulisic. The American international had a decent World Cup and has been generally impressive in Serie A over recent years, having joined from Chelsea.

On Transfermarkt, Pulisic is valued at £34 million and following a busy and expensive summer, he promises to be a frugal acquisition for Tottenham, who face a battle against the clock in an attempt to seal his transfer before Deadline Day.

Pulisic move not likely at this stage

As was the case with Cody Gakpo, who had been Tottenham Hotspur’s priority for their attack, they are likely to be unsuccessful in their pursuit of Christian Pulisic from AC Milan having shown interest in the former Borussia Dortmund star very late on.

While he was on the bench for the Rossoneri’s initial couple of games in Serie A, Ruben Amorim is believed to be keen on retaining Pulisic in the grand scheme of things and he is very much a part of his manager’s plans at San Siro.

Having said that, Rafael Leao’s departure for Galatasaray means AC Milan already have compromised depth on their own left flank unless they can sign the Portuguese’s replacement in time, so that is essentially a factor which rules out Pulisic’s exit.

It will be interesting to see how intently Spurs are looking for a left winger with just a few hours until the transfer window slams shut, as they are unlikely to be able to sign any of their crucial targets at this juncture or face the risk of overpaying for them.
