Liverpool are backed by journalist David Lynch to seal a deal for Brighton and Hove Albion forward Yankuba Minteh.
Following Mohamed Salah’s departure, the Reds have purchased Victor Muñoz from Osasuna. However, he isn’t a left-footed right-winger like the Egyptian.
Liverpool have even purchased Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain by spending a huge fee, but the Frenchman likes to be deployed on the left flank.
Moreover, the Merseyside club currently have Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa and Rio Ngumoha as wide forward options. However, Chiesa has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League since joining from Juventus, while Ngumoha is still very young and needs time to develop.
Gakpo, meanwhile, has been linked with a move away in recent days and likes to play on the left flank. So, Liverpool don’t have a natural left-footed right-winger.
Andoni Iraola tried to purchase Minteh and even launched two formal proposals worth up to £60m. But Brighton rejected both offers as they want around £70m to sell him this summer, with his existing deal set to run until 2029.
Now, on the Anfield Index YouTube channel, Lynch states that if Liverpool sign Minteh by matching Brighton’s asking price, it would be an overpay.

However, he is still very young and possesses high potential. So, Liverpool might be able to recoup the transfer fee over coming years. Therefore, Minteh could be a shrewd acquisition for Liverpool should they purchase him before the deadline.
Lynch said:
“You can see the justification in that because, you know, his age, he’s got potential for improvement. There’s potential to sell him eventually and recoup some of your money.
“That’s why an overpay on a Yankuba Minteh to me would make sense. That wouldn’t feel that panicky. It would be a recognition of the madness of the market, but over five years there’s resale value.”
Minteh is a left-footed versatile forward as he is comfortable on either flank. He is quick, strong, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas and also works hard without possession.
After moving to AMEX Stadium from Newcastle United a couple of years ago, he made 12 goal contributions in his debut campaign but scored only three goals and registered four assists last term.
Minteh is currently injured and set to remain sidelined for a few months. So, it is going to be interesting to see whether Liverpool eventually opt to secure his services today.
