Liverpool commence matchday three of the Premier League against Ipswich Town on Friday at 20:00 UK time tonight as Andoni Iraola seeks his first win as the Reds’ boss having overseen 2-2 draws against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest over the last fornight.
With their Champions League campaign also about to get underway next week, Liverpool will hope to find their maiden Premier League win to gain some vital momentum. Here is how they could line-up at Portman Road.
Goalkeeper – Alisson Becker is expected to retain his place in between the sticks for the visiting side.
Defenders – Jeremie Frimpong’s form has been far from ideal in the last two games but with a lack of depth at right back, the Dutchman could keep his place in the team with Milos Kerkez also likely to play on the left side.
Virgil van Dijk is also expected to be in the heart of the backline, but Jeremy Jacquet may be replaced by Ronald Araujo as the 27-year-old looks set to start his first Liverpool game after joining on loan from Barcelona
Gakpo and Isak set to start again
Midfielders – Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai played together in the double pivot, and the duo could start once again this week as Ryan Gravenberch is expected to be on the bench. Florian Wirtz might be the number 10.
Victor Munoz scored the all-important equaliser last weekend versus Nottingham Forest and might feature on the right wing, whereas Cody Gakpo, who is set to stay at Liverpool after weeks of speculation on his future, could be employed on the left.
Forward – Alexander Isak is expected to lead the line for the Reds, with new signing Bradley Barcola not expected to be fully fit for a starting berth.
