Tottenham set sights on signing Boca Juniors’ Leonel Flores

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly set their sights on signing Boca Juniors forward Leonel Flores, as per the Argentine outlet El Intransigente.

The 19-year-old started his youth career at El Zorzal before joining the Argentinian giants’ academy at the age of seven. After coming through their youth system, he made his senior debut earlier this year.

In recent months, the youngster has been starting regularly for Boca Juniors, scoring twice and registering a solitary assist in 12 appearances across all competitions. Moreover, he has helped his side reach the CONMEBOL Sudamericana quarter-final.

So, it appears Flores’ recent eye-catching performances haven’t gone unnoticed, as he has started attracting a lot of attention in recent times.

El Intransigente report that Tottenham have set their sights on signing him, while Brighton and Hove Albion and FC Porto have also expressed their interest in him.

With Flores’ existing deal set to run until 2029, Boca Juniors have no intention of letting him leave, but they might change their stance should his potential suitors such as Tottenham eventually launch a substantial offer.

The Argentine is a versatile forward as he is comfortable on the right flank but can provide cover centrally if needed. He is quick, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, possesses excellent ball-striking power and works hard without possession.

The South American is a talented player and possesses high potential. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Tottenham with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.

Meanwhile, having endured a dire campaign last term, Tottenham splashed a huge amount of money in the recently concluded summer transfer window to hand Roberto De Zerbi the necessary tools to achieve success this season.

However, Spurs have started the new campaign poorly, losing the first two Premier League games against Brentford and Newcastle United by an aggregate score of 5-0. Now, they are set to travel to the City Ground to face off against Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.
