Arsenal could make January move for Pedro Neto

Pedro-Neto-Chelsea 2024

According to Caught Offside, Arsenal could make a winter move for Chelsea winger Pedro Neto.

The Gunners had a productive summer transfer window with five permanent signings. However, they made only one forward acquisition in Christos Tzolis, which came as a surprise decision.

The club parted ways with two left wingers in Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli, and they did not sufficiently replace them, considering Tzolis is inexperienced at the top level.

Arsenal may seek a fresh solution at the turn of the year and Caught Offside claim that the Gunners are likely to make an approach for Neto, having gathered information through representatives.

Manchester City are likewise admirers of the former Wolverhampton Wanderers man, while there is also interest from Al-Hilal.

Chelsea’s hierarchy expect a package between £60 million and £69 million for the 26-year-old attacker.

Avoid

Arsenal started the summer transfer window with the aim of landing a marquee left winger. Morgan Rogers was the prime target for the Gunners, but Chelsea beat them to his signature after agreeing to pay £117 million.

The Premier League holders then considered an ambitious move for Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior. However, the Brazil international ended up penning a fresh six-year deal with Los Blancos to end the speculation.

There was some talk about Arsenal pursuing a marquee striker in the form of Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez, but the Argentine was clear on his mind that he would not entertain leaving for any other club than Barcelona.

Hence, the Gunners concluded the transfer window without landing an elite forward. Tzolis has done well in his early Arsenal career, but he received a huge reality check during the recent 1-0 win over Aston Villa on the road.

The Greek can be a menace for opposition defenders when offered space and time around the box, but can struggle when man-marked. We could see more teams trying to pressurise him, having seen him struggle at Villa Park.

Neto has now been named as a possible wide attacking option, but we would personally avoid an approach. The Portuguese is primarily a right winger. Arsenal have the position covered with Bukayo Saka, Noni Madueke and Max Dowman.

The Portuguese can also operate on the opposite flank but his record is mediocre. He has accumulated just 11 goals and 11 assists from 82 appearances as a left winger in his career. At 26, he is unlikely to significantly improve in the role.

Arsenal’s main point of weakness is on the left wing and need to find a better solution than Neto.
