Manchester United could reportedly make a move to sign AFC Bournemouth star Adrien Truffert, as per transfer expert David Ornstein.
Following Milos Kerkez’s move to Liverpool, the Cherries decided to reinforce the left-back position by purchasing the 24-year-old from Stade Rennais last summer.
The Frenchman enjoyed a promising debut campaign in the Premier League, making six goal contributions and keeping 11 clean sheets in 39 appearances across all competitions. Moreover, he helped his side qualify for the Europa League by finishing sixth in the league.
Now, on The Athletic podcast, Ornstein reports that after appointing Marco Rose as the new manager, Bournemouth are reluctant to lose their star players this season. However, they might change their stance next summer, with Eli Junior Kroupi, Alex Scott, Rayan and Truffert all likely to leave.
Man Utd were interested in signing a new left-back as a potential long-term replacement for Luke Shaw but ultimately couldn’t sign anyone this summer. So, they might attempt to strengthen this position next year and could make a move for Truffert.
The journalist claims that apart from United, other clubs may also look to sign him. He still has a contract until 2030 and Bournemouth want around £60m to let him leave next summer.
Truffert to Man Utd
Ornstein said:
“Not many clubs recruited in that left-back position, which means there’s going to be a need on the horizon. Truffert has a really good age profile (he’s 25 in November). He’s the sort of player that you could see moving.
“Manchester United were one team that we talked about with left-backs over the window, and there will be more. It is going to be an interesting one. I’m hearing a value of around £60million ($81m) and that there’s potentially a deal to be done next summer. I could see him being capable of playing for one of the biggest clubs.”
Shaw has been the first-choice left-back option for Man Utd, although he has had numerous fitness problems over the years. The Old Trafford club purchased Patrick Dorgu as a potential long-term replacement for Shaw.
However, Michael Carrick has been using the Dane as a forward. Moreover, Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui can provide cover in this position if needed, although they are right-backs by trait.
Truffert is a talented player and has shown glimpses of his qualities in the Premier League in recent times. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Man Utd should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the 20-time English champions eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services.
