Enzo Fernandez left Chelsea late in the transfer window this summer for Manchester City, and despite the club’s best efforts to sign Lamine Camara, a deal for the AS Monaco star collapsed on Deadline Day.
Xabi Alonso’s midfield depth has been put to the test just three matches into the season as the Blues have proven to be fairly easy to bypass on the transition, and Moises Caicedo’s injury last week has been far from ideal news for the team to add to that.
Romeo Lavia has been decent so far but has an unflattering fitness record, and while Reece James has been employed in midfield every now and then, there is a significant room for depth and improvement in the squad’s engine room.
According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea are willing to materialise their interest in Bournemouth forward Alex Scott this January after a failed attempt at his signing this summer and will be ready to meet his price which, which BBC claims is worth £80 million.
Perfect replacement for Fernandez
If Chelsea manage to sign Alex Scott from Bournemouth in the January transfer window, they would have secured a top quality midfielder, who has everything in his vault to be a worthy replacement for Enzo Fernandez.
Scott is brilliant on the ball as he can resist pressure, use his physique to hold off defenders and make intelligent passes. He is also capable of driving the ball in the final third to create chances and makes late runs into the box.
With a goal and assist to his name in three Premier League appearances this season, Chelsea’s interest in the 23-year-old is not a surprise. Defensively, he has a strong work-rate and wins duels effectively, whilst also using his intelligence to win the ball back.
Having said that, Chelsea will not find it easy to convince Bournemouth to sell one of their most important players midway through the season, so it will be interesting to see whether their willingness to match Scott’s price tag actually results in his transfer in the winter.
