Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Athletico Paranaense defender Arthur Dias, as per TEAMtalk.
After coming through the Brazilian side’s youth system, the 19-year-old made his first-team debut last year before establishing himself as a key starter.
Last season, he helped his side gain promotion and has been guiding them to finish in the top four of Brasileirao Betano this campaign. In 31 appearances across all competitions, the youngster has netted a solitary goal and kept 10 clean sheets this term.
Having been impressed by his development, Carlo Ancelotti has selected the defender in the Brazil national squad for the upcoming international fixtures.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Tottenham have been monitoring his development closely for some time and could make a concrete approach in January or next summer.
Apart from the Lilywhites, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Brentford are also interested in Dias, having kept a close eye on his performances in recent times.
Other than the Premier League clubs, RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, Como, Atalanta, Atletico Madrid and Benfica are also plotting a swoop for him.
Dias to Tottenham
However, the report state that Athletico Paranaense don’t want to part ways with him and are planning to tie him down to a fresh contract, with his existing deal set to run until 2028.
Dias is a 6ft 2in tall left-footed centre-back but can provide cover in the left-back position if needed. He is quick, can play out from the back and is efficient in defensive contributions.
The Brazilian is a talented player and possesses high potential. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Tottenham with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him.
However, following Marcos Senesi’s arrival this summer, Spurs don’t need a new left-footed centre-back as Micky Van de Ven is also an option Roberto De Zerbi currently has at his disposal.
Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.
Meanwhile, following a disappointing draw against Everton in the Premier League, Tottenham are set to face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup in midweek.
