Liverpool and Everton have reportedly joined the race to sign Manchester United target and Leicester City midfielder Louis Page, as per TEAMtalk.
After coming through the Foxes’ youth system, the 18-year-old made his first-team debut last year. Initially, he featured as a rotational option before playing regularly this season.
In five League One appearances, the youngster has registered three assists thus far. So, it appears Page’s recent development hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Man Utd came close to signing him this summer, but a move eventually fell through. Still, they haven’t given up hope of securing his services and sent scouts to watch him in action against Stockport County last weekend.
The midfielder helped Leicester win the game 4-3 by registering two assists. However, United will have to overcome fierce competition to finalise the operation, as Manchester City, Liverpool, Everton, Newcastle United and Sunderland are also in this race, and their representatives also watched him in action closely vs Stockport County.
Furthermore, Page has attracted attention from Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. The report state that apart from the Premier League clubs, Borussia Dortmund have also expressed their interest in him and monitored his performance last weekend.
Still, Man Utd remain confident that they are currently the frontrunners in this race, having already done groundwork over this deal this summer.
Battle
Page is a 6ft tall left-footed box-to-box midfielder by trait but is also efficient in the defensive midfield position. He is dynamic, technically sound, can make surging runs from deep, and is efficient in defensive contributions.
Having bolstered the midfield department by purchasing Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba this summer, United don’t need a new midfielder as they also have Kobbie Mainoo as an option.
However, after letting Curtis Jones leave, Liverpool didn’t sign a new midfielder in the recently concluded transfer window. So, they could do with reinforcing the engine room.
On the other hand, Everton currently have Hayden Hackney, James Garner, Harrison Armstrong and Christian Norgaard as midfield options. But it appears David Moyes wants to add further depth to this area.
Page is a highly talented young midfielder and could be a shrewd acquisition for Man Utd, Liverpool or Everton should any of those clubs purchase him.
