Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were just as busy in the summer transfer window but have made absolutely contrasting starts to their respective Premier League campaigns four matchdays into the 2026/27 season.
While the Gunners have made a 100% start to their title defence, the Lilywhites have yet to win or worse yet, score their first goal in the English top-flight. Nonetheless, both Londoners are expected to go toe-to-toe for one of the world’s best goalkeepers.
Ekrem Konur has reported that Arsenal and Tottenham are both interested in signing Barcelona shot-stopper Joan Garcia, who has been in phenomenal form for the Catalans since his transfer to Camp Nou from Espanyol last summer.
He has comfortably usurped Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Wojciech Szczesny from their roles at Barca, and his excellent performances don’t make interest in him from English giants a surprise. Garcia is valued at £39 million on Transfermarkt.
Garcia a solid addition but PL move a tall order
Joan Garcia has been tremendous for Barcelona in recent months and is their undisputed number one in between the sticks. His reactions in goal, command of the box and ability to distribute the ball from the back make him an all-round goalkeeper.
Tottenham Hotspur, although very keen on him, can already be discounted from the picture as they might not play in next year’s Champions League either and would not offer the Spanish international an environment to continue winning silverware.
Arsenal may have been in the picture for the Barca star but their own number one, David Raya, has arguably been the best keeper in the Premier League over the last few years and is also above Joan Garcia in the pecking order in the Spanish national side.
Garcia’s inclination towards a club where he will play regularly coupled with Barcelona likely demanding a massive transfer fee from any interested party makes the 25-year-old’s proposed transfer to the Premier League a tall order, at least in the near future.
