Man Utd plan to reignite interest in Jarrad Branthwaite

Manchester United are reportedly planning to reignite their interest in signing Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, as per Football Insider.
After joining the Toffees from Carlisle United back in 2020, the 24-year-old initially struggled to break into the starting line-up. So, he went out on loan on a couple of occasions to play regularly and develop his career.
Following a promising loan spell with PSV Eindhoven, Branthwaite has secured his place in the Merseyside club’s starting line-up in recent years.
However, he has struggled with fitness problems in recent times; as a result, his development has been hampered slightly. Nevertheless, he has enjoyed a bright start this season, keeping two clean sheets in four Premier League appearances.
Now, Football Insider state that after being impressed by his performances, Man Utd hold a long-standing interest in signing him. They initially attempted to purchase him a couple of years ago but Everton refused to let him leave.
United are planning to revamp the defensive department next year and have identified Branthwaite as an ideal option for Michael Carrick’s system.
Considering the defender’s recent fitness problems, United are planning to keep a close eye on him before making a potential swoop next year. However, it is highly unlikely that the Old Trafford club would be able to secure his services in January.
Branthwaite to Man Utd
Branthwaite is valued at around £35m by Transfermarkt and still has a contract until 2030. So, Everton are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to cash-in on him next year.
The Englishman is a 6ft 5in tall left-footed centre-back but can provide cover in the left-back position if needed. He is quick, strong, excellent in the air, comfortable playing out from the back and is efficient in defensive contributions.
Despite his recent fitness problems, he is a talented player and is set to enter the prime stage of his career. Therefore, Branthwaite would be a great coup for Man Utd should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the 20-time English champions eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.
