Arsenal had been keen on signing a left winger in the summer after both Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard departed the club. Christos Tzolis was signed but for much of last month, it was expected another forward would join the Greek.
Vinicius Junior was of strong interest to the Gunners amidst a contract standoff with Real Madrid but the Brazilian international eventually extended his stay at the Bernabeu, therefore ruling the Gunners out of the picture.
Graeme Bailey has reported that Arsenal could yet return for a Real Madrid superstar next year, with Rodrygo Goes now believed to be the subject of their interest as he enters the final year of his contract with the Whites in summer 2027.
The 25-year-old is currently recovering from an ACL injury and will be back early next year, so that effectively rules out any chances of his transfer in January. The summer, however, could be a good time to sign a quality player on a bargain deal.
Rodrygo a superb addition for Arsenal
Even though Rodrygo Goes is currently recovering from an ACL injury, there is every reason to believe he would return to his best sooner rather than later with age and a generally good fitness record on the forward’s side.
With that said, Real Madrid had been open to Rodrygo’s sale for the last year or so, and Yan Diomande’s arrival at the club could be a catalyst to push the Brazilian international out of the Bernabeu and Arsenal would be bolstered significantly by his addition.
Rodrygo has been in terrific form for Los Blancos over the last few seasons, playing a massive role in two Champions League wins in 2022 and 2024. His electric dribbling, clinical finishing and decision-making make him an absolutely lethal winger.
His ability to play on the left as well as the right will hold him in especially good stead at Arsenal, who will be confident about securing his services on a bargain next year when he is in the final year of his contract.
It will be interesting to see how much Real Madrid seek for his services as there is a high likelihood they would be open to selling him, but his lengthy layoff and contractual situation has meant Rodrygo is now valued at only £39 million on Transfermarkt.
