Manchester United have made an underwhelming start to the 2026/27 season as they are 13th in the Premier League with only one win in four matches, and have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup as well following last night’s defeat to Brighton.
With several players underperforming, the Red Devils are set to explore newer signings next year, especially in midfield, where even Bruno Fernandes has also not been up to the mark barring the game against Ipswich Town some weeks ago.
El Nacional has reported that Manchester United are seriously considering a swoop for Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez, and would even be willing to match his £120 million asking price to lure him away from the Catalans in 2027.
According to the source, Chelsea are also keen on the Spanish international’s signing, so the Red Devils will face some serious competition to sign Lopez, who has already scored four goals and assisted two times in all competitions this season.

Fermin Lopez promises to be an excellent addition in the Premier League, not least for Manchester United, who would have directly replaced Bruno Fernandes in the team amidst rumours linking their skipper with transfers elsewhere.
The 23-year-old’s close control, passing accuracy to break the lines, and late runs into the box make him a complete number 10. His goal-scoring runs in the box as well as shooting from distance, combined with press resistance are handy attributes too.
Barcelona, despite regarding Fermin Lopez very highly, could seriously be tempted into considering his sale as a £120 million worth of cash inflow would go a long way in helping them overcome their precarious financial position.
Whether Chelsea, who would view the player as a replacement for Enzo Fernandez, or Manchester United win the race for his services could be largely down to which club qualifies for the Champions League next season and can offer the player the best opportunity to compete for silverware.
