Liverpool have expressed interest in signing Crystal Palace centre-back Tyrick Mitchell in 2027, according to Football Insider.
The left-back enjoyed an outstanding 2024/25 campaign with Bournemouth, producing eight goal contributions across 38 Premier League appearances.
However, his form dropped considerably after joining Liverpool, failing to reproduce the performances that had previously established him among the league’s best marauding full-backs.
His attacking output fell to just one goal and two assists, while there were also growing questions over his defensive displays.
There was optimism that he would improve this season following the arrival of his former manager, Andoni Iraola, who replaced Arne Slot in the dugout, but he has largely struggled for most of the campaign.
On the other hand, Kostas Tsimikas was handed the starting role against Fulham last weekend, but he also struggled to make an impression and was withdrawn at half-time.
Although Kerkez was reinstated in the starting lineup last Sunday in the 1-0 win over Bournemouth, where he impressed, his inability to maintain a high-level performance across the span of games has led Liverpool to explore other potentially reliable options.
This is according to Football Insider, which claims that Kerkez’s struggles this season have heightened Liverpool’s interest in signing a new left-back in 2027.
Mitchell to Liverpool
Among the potential left-back options, the report adds that Palace Mitchell is on the club’s radar amid uncertainties surrounding his contract, which is set to run out at the end of the season.
Although the Eagles are keen on extending the 27-year-old’s contract, his performances over the past few seasons have piqued the interest of several clubs, including Liverpool, who could swoop for the Englishman as a cheaper alternative to the struggling Kerkez, according to the report.
Kerkez has come under much criticism this season for his performances. Against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League, the 22-year-old was guilty of ball-watching and failing in his attempt to set the offside trap as Marcos Llorente ran in behind to score.
However, the Hungarian international put in an impressive display against his former club last Sunday and was rated 7.2 by FOTMOB.
He showed outstanding tenacity against Marcus Tavenier, made nine line-breaking passes, six clearances, two recoveries and was not dribbled past at any time all through the game.
Still, the opportunity to sign Mitchell for free rather than pay a fee around his £21m Transfermarkt valuation is too good to pass on, so it’ll be interesting to see whether Liverpool will make their interest concrete or maintain faith in Kerkez.
