Liverpool & Arsenal plot swoop to sign Givairo Read

Liverpool and Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Feyenoord defender Givairo Read, as per TEAMtalk.

The 20-year-old started his youth career at Zeeburgia before spending a few years with FC Volendam. He joined the Eredivisie giants’ academy in 2023 before making his first team debut the following year.

The youngster has now established himself as a key starter at De Kuip, helping his side win a couple of domestic cup competitions in recent years.

This season, Read has enjoyed a promising start, registering four assists and keeping two clean sheets in seven Eredivisie appearances. He has even been helping his side mount a title charge.

Now, TEAMtalk claim that Nottingham Forest and Everton expressed their interest in signing the Dutchman this summer to bolster the right-back position.

Moreover, Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal were also plotting a swoop for him. However, Feyenoord eventually managed to keep hold of him.

But the Reds and the Gunners haven’t cooled their interest in him and are set to keep a close eye on his development before making a potential swoop in January.

Battle

Read is valued at around £21m by Transfermarkt and still has a contract until 2029. Therefore, the Eredivisie giants are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to cash-in in mid-season.

The youngster is a right-footed right-back by trait. He is quick, comfortable playing out from the back, can create opportunities for the attackers and is efficient in defensive contributions.

With Conor Bradley struggling with fitness problems and Jeremie Frimpong failing to flourish in his career in the Premier League, Liverpool are planning to sign a new right-back next year.

On the other hand, Ben White and Jurrien Timber have struggled with fitness problems in recent times. As a result, it appears Mikel Arteta is considering signing a new right-back.

Read is a talented player and possesses high potential. Therefore, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal or Liverpool should either club purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club or the Merseyside club eventually manage to secure his services in January or next summer.
