Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Strasbourg striker Conrad Harder, as per TEAMtalk.
After enduring a disappointing campaign last term, the Blues decided to appoint Xabi Alonso as the new manager this summer to turn the situation around.
Chelsea even started the new Premier League season with back-to-back victories over Fulham and Brighton and Hove Albion. However, they have failed to continue the momentum, accumulating only one point in the last three games.
As a result, Alonso’s side are languishing in mid-table with seven points from five matches. However, they have reached the Carabao Cup fourth round by defeating Luton Town and Leeds United in the last two matches.
Meanwhile, Chelsea always focus on signing highly talented young players and have already started exploring options ahead of the upcoming winter transfer window.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Chelsea are keeping a close eye on Harder before making a potential swoop in the future. He joined the West London club’s sister club, Strasbourg, on loan from RB Leipzig on deadline day and scored on his debut against Troyes earlier this month.
If he manages to impress the Chelsea scouts, they could even make a move for him in January. Apart from the Blues, Leeds United, Everton and Brighton and Hove Albion have been monitoring his development closely.
Harder to Chelsea
On the other hand, Sevilla, Lazio and Galatasaray made moves to sign him this summer, but Strasbourg ultimately managed to win the race for him.
Chelsea and Strasbourg are owned by the same company, and the two clubs have traded several players in recent years, with Chelsea in the strongest position to buy the Dane.
Harder is a 6ft 1in tall left-footed striker. He is quick, strong, can finish off his chances, and works hard without possession. The Dane initially came into the spotlight having displayed promising performances for Sporting CP before joining Leipzig last year.
However, he struggled to find regular game time at Red Bull Arena. Still, the 21-year-old is a talented player and possesses high potential. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Chelsea with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Alonso’s side eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.
