Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky Van de Ven, as per Football Insider.
Since joining the Lilywhites from VfL Wolfsburg in 2023, the 25-year-old has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League.
He helped his side win the Europa League by defeating Manchester United in the final last year. Although Spurs endured a dire campaign last term, the Dutchman showcased his productivity, scoring seven goals and registering a solitary assist in 45 appearances across all competitions.
Having proven his worth in the English top-flight, Van de Ven has secured his place in the Netherlands national team’s starting line-up.
Now, Football Insider state that Liverpool are considering replacing Virgil Van Dijk next year as the 35-year-old’s existing deal is set to expire at the end of this season.
The Reds are interested in Van de Ven, and the defender would be open to moving to Anfield despite recently signing a fresh term until 2031 due to Tottenham’s recent struggles.
After finishing 17th in the last two Premier League campaigns, Tottenham are currently at the bottom of the table with two points from five games. Moreover, they have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Liverpool in the third round.
Van de Ven to Liverpool
However, Spurs always play hardball to sell their big assets and are likely to demand a huge fee to allow their captain to join an English rival, with the player valued at around £43m by Transfermarkt.
Van de Ven is a 6ft 4in tall left-footed centre-back but plays as a left-back for the Netherlands. He is extremely quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back, and is solid in defensive contributions.
The Dutchman has proven his worth in the Premier League and is currently at the prime stage of his career. Previously, he struggled with fitness problems but has been featuring regularly in recent months.
Therefore, Van de Ven would be a shrewd acquisition for Liverpool as a potential long-term replacement for Van Dijk should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Merseyside club eventually manage to lure him to Anfield in January or next summer.
