Man Utd join Chelsea & Arsenal in race to sign Jacobo Ramon

Jacobo Ramon

Manchester United have reportedly joined Chelsea and Arsenal in the race to sign Como defender Jacobo Ramon, as per Caught Offside.

After revamping the frontline by purchasing Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko last year, the Red Devils decided to overhaul the engine room this summer.

Having been linked with expensive options like Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Aurelien Tchouameni, United ultimately purchased Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba.

Now, the Old Trafford club could do with strengthening the backline next year. They have conceded 11 goals in seven appearances across all competitions this season.

Michael Carrick currently has Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire as options to deploy in the right centre-back position. However, De Ligt has been out injured for almost a year due to a back problem.

On the other hand, Yoro has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League since joining from LOSC Lille a couple of years ago. Maguire, meanwhile, has reached the twilight of his career and has entered the final few months of his current deal.

Now, Caught Offside claim that Man Utd have identified Ramon as a serious option to strengthen the defence after being impressed by his recent eye-catching performances.

However, the Old Trafford club will have to overcome fierce competition to seal the deal as Arsenal and Chelsea are also in this race. On the other hand, Real Madrid are considering bringing him back, and they have a buyback clause.

Despite purchasing Maxence Lacroix this summer, Chelsea have struggled with defensive frailties. As a result, Xabi Alonso is seemingly planning to strengthen the backline further.

On the other hand, following William Saliba’s serious back problem, Arsenal decided to purchase Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa this summer.

As a result, Arsenal currently have the Englishman plus Cristhian Mosquera, Jurrien Timber and Ben White as right-sided defensive options. So, the Gunners don’t need a new right-footed defender unless anyone leaves.

Ramon, valued at around £38m by Transfermarkt, is a right-footed centre-back. He, standing at 6ft 5in tall, is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top.

Therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal, Man Utd or Chelsea should any of those clubs eventually manage to secure his services.
