Liverpool showing serious interest in Gilberto Mora

According to Teamtalk, Liverpool have made direct contact with the representatives of Mexican wonderkid Gilberto Mora ahead of a potential move during the winter transfer window.
The 17-year-old is one of the best emerging talents in Mexican football and he caught the eye with his performances during the summer World Cup. Mora will turn 18 on October 14 and there is anticipation that he could move to European football as early as January.
Borussia Dortmund and Benfica are among the player’s pro-active suitors at the moment, but Liverpool have also shown ‘serious interest’ in acquiring his signature and have made ‘direct contact’ with his representatives regarding a potential swoop this winter.
Mora’s next club could be decided based on playing time rather than the pedigree. The Club Tijuana playmaker is currently valued in the region of £17 million to £21 million, as per Teamtalk and his sale would represent a Liga MX transfer record.
Playing time
Mora has made good progress over the past couple of years at Club Tijuana, and he has started the current campaign in splendid form with 5 goals and 1 assists from just 7 appearances in the Liga MX Apertura.
The youngster is primarily an attacking midfielder but can occasionally play from the left wing. Mora recently impressed for Mexico against Colombia, scoring a crucial equaliser in a 1-1 draw for the El Tri.
Aside from his goal, he had a passing accuracy of 94 percent in the friendly, while winning an impressive 8 duels and making 7 recoveries. He looks a top-class prospect and could move to Europe at the turn of the year.
Liverpool are hot on the trail of him but the big question mark remains whether Mora would welcome a move to Anfield knowing that he may have to play second fiddle to Florian Wirtz for the number 10 position.
His prospects on the left flank seem unlikely, given Liverpool have Bradley Barcola, Cody Gakpo, David Munoz and Rio Ngumoha. Mora would be guarantee regular minutes at a club such as Benfica. He could lean towards joining the Portuguese outfit before pursuing a bigger challenge with another European football in the next few years.
