Liverpool keeping tabs on Leverkusen’s Jarell Quansah

Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close eye on Bayer Leverkusen star Jarell Quansah, as per Football Insider.

After coming through the Reds’ youth system, the 23-year-old joined Bristol Rovers on loan to play regularly and develop his career. Upon returning to Anfield, he featured as a rotational option, helping his side win the Premier League title during the 2024/25 season.

However, Quansah decided to join Leverkusen permanently last year. He enjoyed a promising debut campaign at BayArena, scoring five goals and keeping 13 clean sheets in 44 appearances across all competitions.

The defender has even enjoyed a steady start this season, notching up a solitary assist and keeping two clean sheets in four Bundesliga appearances.

Having shown glimpses of his qualities in the German top-flight, Quansah has secured his place in Thomas Tuchel’s England national team.

Now, Football Insider state that Liverpool are weighing up defensive options ahead of the upcoming transfer window and are keeping a close eye on Quansah’s development.

With the player’s existing deal set to run until 2030, Leverkusen aren’t in any rush to sell him, but Liverpool have a buyback clause worth around £59.5m, which will expire on 15 June 2027.

Although the Merseyside club are monitoring his development, they are unlikely to make a move for him. Apart from Andoni Iraola’s side, Chelsea and Real Madrid are also interested in him.

Quansah to Liverpool

Quansah is a 6ft 3in tall right-footed centre-back by trait but is also efficient in the right-back position. He is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back, and is efficient in defensive contributions.

Liverpool currently have Jeremy Jacquet, Giovanni Leoni, Joe Gomez and Ronald Araujo as options to deploy in the RCB position. However, Leoni and Gomez have struggled with fitness problems in recent months, while Araujo has joined on loan from Barcelona.

On the other hand, the Anfield club have struggled with the right-back situation since Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure. So, Liverpool could do with signing a versatile defender like Quansah. He is a talented player and possesses high potential.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are set to resume their Premier League campaign against Manchester City this weekend.
