Manchester United interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Gavi next year

Manchester United bought the likes of Andrey Santos, Carlos Baleba and Youri Tielemans during the summer transfer window to bolster their midfield, but it looks like their engine room rebuild is not over yet as they continue to seek better depth and quality.
El Nacional has reported that the Red Devils are now interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Gavi, who has had a limited role under Hansi Flick lately having struggled for fitness, with Rodri’s arrival at the club further impacting his role in the team.
Gavi has a contract at the Camp Nou until June 2030 but is valued at a measly £21 million. Considering his injuries of late, it is unlikely Barca will be able to ask for much more for his sale and United sense an opportunity to sign the 22-year-old frugally.
United would be bolstered by Gavi’s addition
Had it not been for injuries, Gavi would have been one of the mainstays in Barcelona’s midfield after a very promising start to his career at the club. Though he won the World Cup with Spain in the summer, his situation at his club has not changed positively.
With that being said, the young Spanish international promises to be a good investment for Manchester United. At 22, he has enough time in his career to find his feet and live up to his sky-high potential, possibly at Old Trafford.
The Barca star’s tenacity to win duels and physically outmuscle his opponents is commendable despite a height of only five feet and eight inches, as are his abilities to make tackles, interceptions and clearances to effectively regain possession.
In tight spaces, Gavi is brilliant with the ball at his feet and can resist pressure from his opponents. He makes good short and through passes to push possession higher up the pitch, which makes him a very capable central midfielder.
Paris Saint-Germain are also believed to be keen on his signing, as per El Nacional, and the player is inclined towards joining them. Therefore, it will be interesting to see how strong of a chance Manchester United have for Gavi’s acquisition next year.
