Liverpool in the driving seat to sign Alex Scott

According to The Daily Mail, Liverpool are in the ‘driving seat’ to sign Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott ahead of the winter transfer window.

The Merseyside giants have not invested in their midfield department since 2023 and they sanctioned the sale of Curtis Jones to Inter Milan over the summer.

The Reds are bound to pursue a marquee signing for the position soon and The Daily Mail claim that they are in the driving seat to land Scott from the Cherries.

The interest is reportedly connected to the presence of manager Andoni Iraola, who was formerly the head coach of the South Coast outfit for three campaigns.

Chelsea have also been credited with an interest after a failed summer move, and it is claimed that the Cherries want them to enter the race again this winter.

Bournemouth have set an asking price of £100 million for Scott whose contract expires in June 2028.

Expensive deal

Scott has been with the Cherries for the past three years, but last season was his big breakout season as he cemented a regular spot in the centre of the park after an injury crisis.

The midfielder was brilliant in a defensive point of view. He won almost 60% of his duels for the South Coast outfit, while averaging 5 recoveries and almost 2 tackles per game.

Scott accumulated five goal contributions last campaign. He has fared better this term with three goal involvements already but he is currently on the sidelines with a thigh issue.

The Bristol City graduate currently has a contract until June 2028 with no plans to renew. Hence, it is unsurprising that Bournemouth want a mid-season sale to secure the best price.

Chelsea failed with a £68m offer last summer, and Liverpool can expect to pay a much higher fee to bring the 23-year-old to Anfield this winter.

We believe the Reds wouldn’t want to overpay for Scott knowing that he will enter the last year of his contract next summer.

In that case, Bournemouth will no longer be in a strong position to negotiate. The Reds could get him for £68m or even less. Iraola played a big part in the development and his presence could persuade Scott to join the club.

Liverpool may see him as a replacement for Alexis Mac Allister whose contract expires in the summer of 2028. The Argentine has not been handed an extension thus far. It remains to be seen whether the Reds can recruit Scott.

Chelsea could yet scupper their plans if they are prepared to meet the Cherries’ valuation this winter.
