Arsenal reignite interest in Vinicius Junior with January move now a possibility

Arsenal are very much in the Premier League title race six matches into the Premier League season, but they trail Manchester City by three points. While that is courtesy of a 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, their overall offensive displays could be better.
Having been keen on a left winger’s purchase during the summer transfer window, Christos Tzolis was the Gunners’ only signing and while he has made a good start to life at the club, he still has a lot to build on in terms of both, skill and experience.
Fichajes has reported that Arsenal are ready to reignite their interest in a player they were linked with for weeks during the summer, Vinicius Junior, as they look to sign him in January to resolve their inconsistent offensive performances.
Despite handing him a new contract at the club until 2032 in the summer, Madrid are prepared to sell Vinicius after his subpar start to the 2026/27 season, as per Fichajes, and Arsenal are prepared to pay £127 million for the Brazilian’s services.
Vinicius a superb signing for Arsenal
Though Vinicius Junior has made a very poor start to the season and looks like a shadow of himself, Arsenal would be significantly bolstered by his signing in January, before the decisive second half of the campaign.
Vinicius has scored over 20 goals every season since 2021/22 and has had rough patches every now and then. To his credit, the 26-year-old has bounced back strongly each time, particularly in the most crucial phase of the season in March, April or May.
Kylian Mbappe’s tendency to position himself on the left wing and Real Madrid’s team being built around his strengths is also a reason behind Vinicius’ struggles, which would be alleviated if he ends up joining Arsenal in the winter.
It will be interesting to see what Jose Mourinho thinks of the situation as he benched Vinicius in Madrid’s last La Liga game against Villarreal, before the Brazilian came off and received a red card, which now sees him suspended for four outings.
The next few months will be crucial in determining how patient Mourinho will be with Vinicius at Real Madrid, and that could go a long way in influencing whether the 26-year-old stays at the Bernabeu or is keen on pursuing a new challenge.
